Jetstar is launching a direct Auckland-to-Adelaide service from the middle of December, taking on Air New Zealand with special launch fares of $99 one-way.
Jetstar will fly the route three times a week from December 16, operating every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Adelaide will be the airline's fourth transtasman destination in addition to services to Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast from Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown.
Jetstar's head of New Zealand, Grant Kerr, said the customer response to transtasman flying had been strong over the past few years.
"We know Kiwis love to holiday in Australia and now they can discover or revisit another destination more affordably than in the past."
Fares for Auckland-Adelaide flights will start from $219 one-way online without checked baggage.
Air New Zealand flies daily services to Adelaide from Auckland and special one-way fares start at $250 without bags, according to Air New Zealand's website.
Air New Zealand will also face competition on its Auckland-Perth route over summer from Jetstar's parent company, Qantas.
Jetstar will use an Airbus A320 for the Auckland-Adelaide service, a flight of just under five hours.

Great news for Adelaide!
Whilst not technically another new International airline, new International services out of Adelaide are always welcome (it's just a pity that it wont be a service using Qantas metal)

No, it's a pity it doesn't serve any new destinations. But what does it matter whether it uses Qantas metal? 'Tis not as if Qantas has a superior fleet to Air NZ.bm7500 wrote:Great news for Adelaide!

What is interesting in that article is that it states
, The only fly daily during December-February period. For most of the year they operate 5 flights a week, sometimes go down to 4 a week, then sometimes up to 6 a week (which it is at the moment). However what this JQ flight does, is fill in the days that Air New Zealand don't really operate (when at 5 a week) which are Wednesday & Saturday's. Mondays drops off for Air NZ when they go down to 4 a week. Really good to see JQ enter this market, it has been a long time in the making, would have preferred them to start up Christchurch, but hopefully that will be the next stop. Maybe Bali a possibility.Air New Zealand flies daily services to Adelaide from Auckland

CheersTTF backs Coalition’s policy for aviation
September 2, 2013
The Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) has come out in support of the Coalition’s policy for aviation, saying it paves the way for serious reform of one of the artificial restrictions hampering air transport growth in two of our major cities.
TTF chief executive Ken Morrison said the pledge to review the list of business and private charter aircraft permitted to operate at Adelaide and Sydney airports was a good first step on the path towards incentivising quieter, modern aircraft over older, noisier types.
“The list of allowable aircraft for Adelaide Airport has not been updated since 2000. The list of allowable aircraft for Sydney Airport has not been updated since 2005.
“The Coalition’s policy recognises the absurdity of legislation that fails to take into account the massive gains made by aircraft manufacturers in making significantly quieter aircraft.”
“The curfew rules at Adelaide and Sydney ban all night flights of passenger aircraft, but permits one specific ageing freighter aircraft and a raft of older business jets,” said Mr Morrison.
“This had led to some perverse behaviour. Last new year’s eve, for example, Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio had to use a 1960s-design private jet to fly from Sydney to Canberra where he picked up a newer, quieter intercontinental jet to fly back to Las Vegas to celebrate there too.
“Governments around the world have found ways to both incentivise quiet aircraft and also allow expansion of aviation activity. We would encourage a future Australian government to also look at permitting the quietest, next-generation passenger aircraft to operate at dusk and dawn.
“There are also other areas where we congratulate the Coalition on following policies essential to the continued growth of air transport in Australia. Australia already has a world class reputation for air traffic management and aviation safety and we welcome the Coalition’s focus on these.
“The aviation industry and tourism sector more broadly will benefit from a planned Aviation Industry Consultative Council that would give them direct access to the minister.
“The Coalition has also reaffirmed industry’s view that the motivation behind the federal government’s 2012 raise in the Passenger Movement Charge rate to $55 was revenue raising. We now urge the Coalition to commit to both freeze and review this tax if in office.”

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Strange that the Jetstar news doesn't yet appear to have been picked up by the local media, nor is there an announcement from Adelaide Airport.
Anyway, here's the official word from Jetstar itself...

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Airport & Airlines
Aidan, it's my view that it was a pity as it wasn't a new Qantas International service to replace the lack of direct QF services out of Adelaide. It's also a pity as Qantas is my preferred airline.Aidan wrote:No, it's a pity it doesn't serve any new destinations. But what does it matter whether it uses Qantas metal? It was my opinion on the matter and is a purely subjective view on the issue, so please do me a favor and keep your signature augmentative and antagonistic style of responses out of my posts.
Cheers.

I certainly do mono, what annoys me is the way in which the above-mentioned forum member deconstructs peoples posts where he doesn't agree with their view and then takes the author to task on every minute detail. I'm not saying he shouldn't have his say, I'm just suggesting there are a lot more constructive ways to go about it.monotonehell wrote:Not sure if bm7500 understands the point of a discussion forum.
As soon as i see a post split into numerous quotes and countered at every opportunity, it's usually the work of the same respondent and i usually gloss straight over it. To respond to a post in this fashion is fine occasionally, to do it almost all the time is just boring.

Well okay then, as long as it's just Aidan you are complaining about. He does have his reasons as we have taken him to task on it before.bm7500 wrote:I certainly do mono, what annoys me is the way in which the above-mentioned forum member deconstructs peoples posts where he doesn't agree with their view and then takes the author to task on every minute detail.
