Those palm trees have been there for as long as I can remember. Why are people starting to complain now? Is this the new trend, to complain about every single f--g tree in Adelaide.

No, they have always irked me. Have you ever walked along that road in mid summer without any shade? Palms are just a no no. We're not at the beach.

I have, it's a bridge. There's no place for trees. The palms are in a median strip that is far removed from any pedestrian area.
You're just racist toward gums and palms.

Hope those Boat Sheds get the bulldozer soon. Such a shame in our postcard shot.

see, I disagree, I love the contrast between old and new.
They aren't derelict but they show what a river is actually used for...

That roof of the new building doesnt look as heavy and ugly as some of the early renders depicted. With the copper-like cladding it looks quite sculptural. Dont really like the orange mullions though.

If we keep them I think we should repurpose those sheds as restaurants and bars (but demolish and rebuild that single storey shed). Then build new rowing sheds up or down the river away from this key entertainment area.
This way we can keep the history of the sheds (like Jolleys Boathouse) but use it for a more appropriate function in this emerging area.

If the cladding used on the 2nd stage of the convention centre is anything like the copper feature used at Adelaide Oval, its going to look friggen amazing.

perhaps
or (think aloud here) we somehow give them multiple uses, set up soe cafes that overlook the rowing areas - it gives the whole place a sense of being alive and in use.
To me it is like the Freo, one of the biggest drawcards of that area is people dining in the area which is used by boats/fishing.

Why drive out river users? That would be counteractive. The more and varied uses, around the clock, the more concentrated activity, the better the commercial opportunities, the more active the area. Motion and activity on the river gives potential restaurant diners something to look at. It's a feedback loop.
If we had it some people's way we would have a continuation of the deserted areas we currently enjoy. Multi-use is important.

Just working a hypothetical angle here, do you reckon it would look good, if the boathouses could be somehow (I highly, HIGHLY doubt it's possible) be moved under the southern side of the Morphett St bridge?
That way, it would be hidden from Adelaide's 'postcard view' of the Convention Centre, and also, they are still only metres from the actual river itself. This way would be the perfect compromise, I feel... If only it were viable.
