Picking up on crawf's post, perhaps the Remand Centre can eventually be relocated to the open space south of the Supreme Court. I assume both sites are government owned and UniSA would love to get their hands on anything near the new library.

Have heard a credible rumour (maybe its been reported), that the HQ owners are in talks to sell their site to developers (hotel presumeably because of the new hospital?)

Wouldn't surprise me if this did happen down the track, that site would be perfect for a hotel and HQ isn't the most attractive complex (excluding Newmarket Hotel). Not to mention once the new hospital is completed, patients will probably complain about the loud noise from nearby HQ.

But if HQ does close it will leave a massive hole in Adelaide's clubbing scene which would be devastating for the city nightlife. Unless if it's replaced by another large entertainment venue in the city, then it wont be so bad.

HQ already is a hole. I for one will be glad to see it go.

(But not before the Vengaboys and Aqua come to town)

I'm not a fan of HQ either, but it would still be a massive blow to the local clubbing scene. HQ attracts alot of national and international acts.

The West End has already lost Cargo and Vodka Bar in recent times.

Anything that kills the clubbing scene is a good thing in my opinion.

Pub scene revival?

JamesXander where did you hear the rumour about Hq from? Being a frequent attender of the club (dont judge me hah) as well as follower on this site im very interested to look/learn more about this

A 20 -30 story+ hotel would be great for this site if thats what the potential plans are

This would never happen. The site has a strict height limit of 5-6 levels not to mention the Newmarket is heritage listed. The restrictions are AAL ones imposed as its so close to the flight path.

I have heard that some of the owners were made aware that the company had been approached by developers. HQ has a number of different owners apparently.

I would imagine that the new market would be retained as a pub. Also note that there is a 8-10 storey building just down the road (ipad or something)

Huh? Can't see the link there I'm afraid.

Inmates will walk across the road and hire the equipment they need to break out of the remand centre?
Sorry, as in residential or commercial development.
Are you aware there is a hotel right behind the remand center, with only a small lane way separating them?
Some of the balcony views are of the remand center..

Where did you hear this rumour?

The owners of HQ should look at Heaven as an example not to follow.
HQ, formerly Heaven, worked and works, because of it's location.
Heaven, reopened at former St Pauls site on Pultney, does not work so great.
Presumably HQ will re-open at another location. It wont work.
If they are going to close at their current site, they may as well just open a new club with a new name.
A 20 -30 story+ hotel would be great for this site if thats what the potential plans are
No worries. I heard it's going to be 110 stories.
