The developers never said it was already "complete". That was only Sensational Adelaide. The developers said it was "open to traffic".

As someone who lives interstate, I can confirm the length of speed limited time applicable to new develooements in Adelaide is over the top. Adelaide does seem to have a fear of going fast, or even designing things for speed and this applies to road, tram and train infrastructure, as well as rediculous roadwork limits, even hundreds of meters from where workers are laying paving on a footpath in a nearby side street.

But here's a few possible answers..

Now, do you think its a sign of good planning, of proper project management, to have a brand new motorway already with resurfaced sections?
Lets look back at the T2T trench..remember the road plates in one section right after it was opened to traffic?

I dont ever recall driving on a motorway or freeway in for example Melbourne or overseas, that was newly constructed & opened, having resurfaced patches. Only ever experienced that here.

There's no pride in work done, no pride in having a presentable city with presentable infrastructure and streetcapes. Good enough is the pass mark. I know people from Darwin who joke about how shit roads here are, nevermind the east coast or Perth lol.

So back to the topic of the road - there are clearly a couple of dark patches in the photo that look like new bitumen. Does anyone know why there are those patches? Would we prefer to have left it because "it's a new road, we shouldn't patch it" if it received damage from a falling load, blown tyre or a crane stabiliser doing work overhead?

It's likely that the lighter patches were completed months before opening whereas the darker patches were completed just before opening.

I think we will find that the 'resurfaced patches' was where crash barriers were located prior to final opening.

I know, but it had been slated for December 2019 completion from the beginning of the project

I assume you mean the concrete barriers. Similar are used on the roads around CBD construction sites or even for the Adelaide 500. How come roads arent resurfaced afterwards?
Last time I was in Melbourne, they were using them on the tullamarine widening project. I bet the next time I go they won't have resurfaced patches.

If it is a case of some of the bitumen was laid earlier, brings me to my earlier point on poor management.
Also, why not rip it all up, recycle it and lay it all down again in oke go so there is a consistent and even surface?

And if it was because a crane was doing work? Must be the shittest bitumen quality.

Ill tell you what the most likely reasons are.
Damage caused by the NC crew in heavy vehciles.
Those sections werent up to standard, so rather then relay it all, they only did some sections because they're already over budget and behind schedule.

You don't build a new road costing nearly a billion dollars to have resurfaced patches. Might seem like cosmetic issues, but its a major fuck up.
