There is no chance of the DIT getting the contract back, unless all the CNGs buses are retired. This may not have been the main reason behind privatisation in the first place. But it will definitely coincide with their immediate withdrawal. Nobody wants to catch a loud and audible CNG bus through a 100 zone in any circumstances.

Starting Sunday, 25 August, Adelaide Hills commuters will see an increase in bus services, which aims to provide more convenience and reduce road congestion. This expansion includes close to 600 extra services each week, representing a 42 percent boost in frequency between the city and the Adelaide Hills.

Extra bus services for the Adelaide Hills

From Sunday 25 August 2024, an additional 384 weekly AM and PM peak express services will be introduced from Mount Barker via the South Eastern Freeway.

Together with the additional services that were introduced earlier this year, this means Adelaide Hills commuters will enjoy almost 600 more trips each week – a 42 per cent increase in trips between the city and the Hills.

These express services will be re-numbered to provide a consistent and easy to understand route numbering system:

T800 (previously T840/840X/T843) - will follow the same route and stopping pattern as the T840 service, with the addition of Stop 1 on Glen Osmond Road providing better access for residents and businesses close to Greenhill Road.
The T800 will be a new 7-day Go Zone with services at least every 15 minutes from 7am to 7pm on weekdays, including every six minutes in peak periods, and half-hourly at night and on weekends
801 and T801 (previously 864/864F) – will follow the same route and stopping pattern as current 864 service between Mount Barker and City. On weekdays, semi-express T801 services will allow passengers to always board and alight at Stop 13, 8, 5 and 1 Glen Osmond Road, however services will not stop at intermediate stops. Affected passengers can use alternative services at their existing stop, walk from the designated stops on Glen Osmond Road or transfer from the service to an all-stops service (Route 861) at Stop 13 Glen Osmond Road. Route 801 services will stop at all stops between Mount Barker and City during early morning, nights and weekends.
The improvements to routes T800, 801 & 863 will improve services throughout peak hours, as well as early mornings, nights and weekends, including more buses servicing Royal Adelaide Hospital.
All Adelaide Hills bus services, except routes 820, 821 and 822, have had minor timing changes to facilitate improved connections between local services and the new high frequency routes.

The new routes will stop at Crafers Park ’n’ Ride, almost doubling the amount of weekday services that are currently available, including 18 extra trips during the morning peak and 22 in the afternoon.

These service improvements will not only provide additional capacity at peak times, including around school times, but will also run more often both early in the morning and late at night, seven days a week.

Stage one improvements launched in January 2024 and included the introduction of a 15-minute service during the weekday interpeak period between Mount Barker and the City, providing a significantly improved frequency compared to the previous hourly weekday interpeak service. 26 services were also introduced on Sundays, bringing Sunday services to the same frequency as Saturdays.
