I don't know where this idea of SA being ultra-conservative came from?
The reason why such developments did not occur before is purely because of the aftermath of the State Bank collapse. When you are bankrupt, there is no money for sexy projects.
However, I agree that all these projects are a major boost for Adelaide.

The AFL will apparently have control of the oval for 7 months of the year with the SACA governing 5 months. There is also a proposal to build the carpark under the eastern side of the ground. Much more detailed designs will be released shortly. The ACC do have some control of development at AO because it is in the parlands but they can be over ruled by the government through an act of parliment. With the influx of a much younger demographic into the SACA membership I also cannot see this fail at a member vote. All sounds like this project might still be on track for 2014 kick off of the AFL season. Lets bloody hope so.

under the eastern stand would make a degree of sense given O'Connell Street/King William Street just there.
Now for the Tram down to the oval push to get the carpark used all year round (I reckon they will try at least)

Let's hope so. It would be great to see a swathe of recreational development along the river from the zoo to Bonython Park. Too bad there's a hospital bang in the middle of it (but hush ma mouth on that topic).
The stadium and associated infrastructure is estimated to cost about $50 million more than the $535 million already allocated, with the Government hopeful private investment will cover the gap.
What does that mean? What about "As part of the deal, the AFL has agreed to commit money to the project"?

I've never figured out the great need for secrecy in sport. Fair enough, when it concerns field placements or transfers, but you get the idea that every aspect of a sports club's doings are a state secret. If the AFL is putting in money - how much and for what? What 'private investment' is needed and where? Conlon is our representative - we pay public servants and politicians to act as our agents, which means keeping us informed unless there are very good reasons not to. We don't elect and pay politicians to go and play with the big end of town in games of their own.
Parking on the east side of the oval? Where?

I'd imagine that where the access road to the Victor Richardson Gates currently is on the eastern flank of Adelaide will become the entry/exit portal to the underground car-park.

Can we assume that with the delay in completing the main expansion work until 2015, the work will start first on the carpark in order to make viable SACA's function venue?

ADELAIDE'S sporting public will have to wait until 2015 to watch AFL at the Adelaide Oval.
The one-year delay can be revealed just two days after SACA and the SANFL agreed on a governance structure and a lease agreement which will be shipped off for signing by Cabinet tomorrow.
A source close to the historic negotiations between football, cricket and the Government said it was "highly unlikely" AFL football would be ready for the start of the 2014 season, which had initially been envisaged as the beginning of a new era in South Australian sport.
The delay has been caused by several construction firms shifting their operations to Queensland where major infrastructure work is required immediately in the wake of the recent floods.
The contract for the building works at Adelaide Oval is yet to go to tender, but there is a shortage of construction firms available in the short term.
It is a blow for the sporting public, which appears to have tired of AAMI Stadium amid slipping attendances.
But some significant resolutions emerged from last week's meeting.
Among them were:
FOOTBALL and cricket were guaranteed to run their sports without interference during their allotted time at the ground, with football taking over the ground in mid-March each year and handing it back in mid-October.
PRIORITY events would include AFL football, SANFL finals, international cricket, one-day domestic cricket and Twenty20 domestic cricket.
AD-HOC events, such as major international events and concerts, would generate funds for the Stadium Management Authority and be used to maintain the venue.
MEMBERSHIP categories are yet to be finalised, but it is envisaged a small amount - likely to be less than 5000 - of 12-month tickets will be made available to SACA members at a price of less than $1000.
STRONG priority clauses have been written into the agreement to avoid any conflict during the "shoulder time" when there could be a clash of pre-season football and late-season cricket.
GOVERNANCE of the ground - which threatened to be a deal-breaker earlier this year - was overcome, with cricket compromising on some of its initial demands.

Pft, that's the biggest lie if I ever heard one.
I think it's more-so the State Government realized that they really haven't got the money for it (considering SA is in the worst financial position nationally) and needed an excuse to delay it a year later and sought convenience in blaming it the QLD floods.

Nope. SA has neither the highest deficit (even per capita) nor the worst credit rating. It's just bollocks that people repeat because it fits their view.

So glad that this has finally eventuated! I honestly thought it would never happen, especially given that we've had very little encouraging news on the matter since the last election. bit of a shame that it's going to be delayed by an extra year (we aren't getting any younger) but it's exciting to think that we will be able to follow the construction phase of the development over the next three to four years. I truly believe that in the next five to ten years, Adelaide will reclaim it's position as one of australias premier cities. It's taken 30 years but it's happening.

How is Adelaide going to be one of Australia's premier cities in 5 years when we are currently 10 years behind.
The state doesn't have the financial capacity to grow. Had Labor relaxed mining exploration at the same time as Perth we may have had a chance.
On a more general note, delaying the project by a year means it will cost more. Where is the extra money coming from.

With the current buzz around the city generated by the festivals, Adelaide is already one of Australia's premier cities.
The Adelaide Oval and Riverbank developments will cement this further and help put Adelaide back on the map.
