Something has to be done about that appalling Queen St/The Parade intersection at Norwood. Always a bottleneck.

There are 2 possible solutions. One is no right turns from The Parade into Queen St from both directions, or make it a scramble crossing with right turn arrows.

The Parade shouldn't be a thoroughfare, but i agree with you. You get people turning in both lanes and traffic stops.

Kensington Road is just as bad though. Not that it matters as you rock up into the hopelessly inadequate Britannia Roundabout.

anyone else get stuck on Port Wakefield road today? a burst water main about 500m north of the Waterloo Corner intersection had northbound side turned into a parking lot all the way to atleast Gepps Cross. Every other main northern arterial was affected by it with people trying to go around.

Same thing happens down south, If there's an accident on Main South Road between Seaford Road and the start of the Southern Expressway, It's a car park for Kilometers. To make matters worse, there is only one reasonable route around such an accident and that's commercial road through to Dyson road, which then also becomes a car park as it can't cope with the volume of traffic trying to go around.

Rivers transverse to the length of the city are a problem, as they are expensive to bridge. The Onkaparinga only has Commercial Road, South Road and Patapinda Road on the plains. Maybe for the next election, one side will propose to finish off the middle section of the North-South motorway and the other side will promise to extend it further south with a new bridge. I guess people who choose to commute across the Onkaparinga Gorge knew what they were getting in to when they bought a house south of the river. The train should have helped.

Yep, google maps was showing a 2 hour delay if I went that way home (Wingfield to Two Wells).

Yep, google maps was showing a 2 hour delay if I went that way home (Wingfield to Two Wells).

$200m planned for upgrades to congested Adelaide intersections

Congested intersections across Adelaide will receive $194 million for upgrades designed to reduce time spent in traffic, under a State and Federal Government agreement.

The joint funding will today be announced for an additional two major intersections, following the realignment of Springbank and Daws Rd unveiled earlier this month.

Portrush Rd on approach to the Magill intersection will be widened under a $98 million upgrade to ease gridlock.

The intersection at Cross and Fullarton roads, which is used by at least 60,000 vehicles daily, also will receive a total of $61 million for more through lanes, turning lanes, and slip lanes to be added to improve safety and travel times for parents on the school run.

Both projects, which are on the State Government’s traffic priority list, are in an early design stage and yet to be tendered.

But The Advertiser understands businesses on Portrush Rd are likely to be affected by the widening and some land acquisitions will be required during the Cross Rd and Fullarton Rd upgrade.

Premier Steven Marshall said busting urban congestion meant South Australians would spend “less time stuck in traffic and have a safer and quicker journey”.

He said the funding added to the Government’s record $11.3 billion infrastructure pipeline delivered in its first State Budget.

Historical crash data indicates 44 crashes have been reported at the Cross Rd and Fullarton Rd intersection between 2013-17.

Urban Infrastructure Minister Alan Tudge said the Federal Government was committed to getting rid of local congestion headaches.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the infrastructure would set SA up for the next decade and help realise the State Government’s vision of it becoming a “hub for tourism, food and hospitality and lead the country in science and space”.

Meanwhile, State Opposition Infrastructure spokesman Tom Koutsantonis has called on the State Government to reverse its decision to include a realignment of Springbank and Daws roads, and implement Labor’s design, unveiled in 2017.

“It is beyond belief that the Liberals will spend $35 million without removing the two T-junctions which are the major cause of congestion, delays and safety issues,” Mr Koutsantonis said.

$100m and $60m just to upgrade an intersection?! Are they being paved with gold?

I'm assuming there is some pretty hefty property aquisitions in there?

How else do you widen it?

I would rather see the $200m go towards much needed level crossing removals. The two intersections earmarked for upgrades are nowhere near as high priority as removing either the Park Terrace, Salisbury or Cross/Marion Roads tram crossing.
