It would be a huge disappointing mistake if this amazing local asset was downgraded to a non tropical rainforest. There is no flora like this near our state, so it's a great place to relax or take visitors who have never experienced a tropical rainforest.
It's unique to Australia. And yes Tourism SA are useless.

I've been thinking and we can't loss this, there needs to be a better business strategy. Things like naming rights, sponsorship, discount price offer, improved tourism marketing and better signage. Even the construction of solar panels.
Look here for example
Santos Museum of Economic Botany is sponsored by Santos, SA and Australian Governments
Amazon Waterlily Pavilion > RAA, KPMG, Coopers, Perpetual Investments
SA Water Mediterranean Garden > SA Water
Biccentennial Conservatory > Nill

Our Botanic Gardens are one of Adelaide's best assets and deserve to be promoted widely. The Bicentennial Conservatory must be saved in its current format. The funding shortfall does not seem to be a large amount. Sponsorship/naming rights and use of solar panels, as per Crawf's suggestions, could be the answer.
My personal favourite is the historic and extremely beautiful Palm House Conservatory (1877).
A great contrast between the old and the new. Worth a trip to the Botanic Gardens.

edit - $72k is not a massive amount. Do we think as a website we could start fundraising? I assume a fair few people on here are employed and would be able to pass the hat around?
tough times I know but far out what a loss.

I was going to send a link of this thread to the SATC, but they don't accept feedback from their website. You have to write a letter and post to them - sigh. How many people would bother with that. It's almost like they don't want feedback.
You can contact the South Australian Tourism Commission by calling (08) 8463 4500 (+ 61 8 8463 4500 from outside Australia)
Postal address: GPO Box 1972, Adelaide SA 5001, Australia
If you wish to log a problem with this website please email the WebMaster.
Thank you for your time.

I'm sure they'd promote it if they wedged a winery in there.

Wayno, this site might be more useful.
The South Australian Tourism Commission is a little more welcoming and certainly more engaging. http://www.southaustralia.com/
They do promote the use of social media via Twitter (@TourismSA), or Facebook and they have a YouTube channel.

hey, just on an unrelated topic, but does anyone know if we will ever have street corners free of fenced off cages and ripped up pavers?

This has been bugging me for ages. I swear the corners of Rundle and Frome Sts are forever under some sort of construction. Can anyone shed some light?

Bouquets to whomever decided to turn the fountains on around Grenfell Centre (Black Stump). They've probably been on for ages and I've just never seen them, but it's miles better than that awful barren wall. More of this, please. Lovely to hear the sound of water back in the CBD.

Great news1 James Place is one of the laneways with the most potential in Adelaide.
I just wish the pub on James Place undergoes a redevelopment; i.e. place the pokies upstairs and bring the bar downstairs.

unless you are going to pay for the oldies to get to the pokies I highly doubt it!
