Extra crane pieces on site today.
and bump
Amendments are on the DAC website for discussion at Thursdays meeting.
Key to the amendments are for the Apple tenancy (of which can be seen in the below render). Council are unhappy as Apple have requested no awning along their store and this goes against council policy. Why does Apple get special circumstances? Do their customers deserve to get wet just so their facade looks pretty?
Also this building looks a lot more stumpy then I rememebed.

The Rundle Mall facade looks like total crap. That upper floor treatment is not acceptable for such a prime location.
The 'stumpy' appearance of the office is such a let down after the original proposal too. Darn economic reality getting in the way of a decent height building for this site.

I think the Grenfell street side is ok, however, the rundle mall facade could have been articulated more nicely.
I would call these gastly

What a thoroughly disappointing design. It's like they didn't even try...

I don't mind it. The office section is hardly boring, with the red detail a nice touch and the retail facade, while nothing earth shattering is OK as a balance to the rest of the building that fits in better with other Rundle Mall facades. Reminds me of Queens Plaza in Brisbane, nothing special, but good in context:

Apple's facade is disappointing though. Will be livened up a bit though with the giant Apple they'll no doubt put on there but don't want to show in the DA just yet, as their lease probably depends on approval of their demands over the lack of awnings etc.

the CRApple store looks like it's going to make a boring design even worse
Something like this would have looked alright though:

I'd expect Apple's going to be a 2 level store given that they've clad the second level:
Assuming they don't have enough pull to deprive a different second floor tenancy of windows, I wonder why they haven't gone for a double storey glass facade like they have in other larger stores.
Unless of course, they do have that pull and the second level tenancy will be the office fronting Rundle Mall that's mentioned in the amended DA, which'll take a hit on natural light.

No way Apple should get a pass on the awnings, just disrupts the street flow to have one small section exposed to all the elements.

I could see a giant long LED screen ALA the Entertainment Centre running along the bare second level section of the Rundle mall frontage. (you can see part of it on the right hand side of the image below)

My God, those frontages are awful. No-one could be bothered, it seems, and it shows. It's lazy architecture.

I was analysing the plans a bit closer and it seems that the stated height of 72m, does not include the height of the angulated plant room where the Bendigo-Adelaide Bank logo will go. When one includes the height of the plant room (3.96m), the total height of this building is 76m, which would make it our outright 7th tallest building.
