Works are set to start this Monday, 15 April, on a project to install traffic lights at the junction of Bridge Road and Maxwell Road, in Para Hills.

The traffic signals will be installed where Bridge Road meets the western side of Maxwell Road, while right turn lanes on both roads will be duplicated and extended.

Drivers will no longer be able to turn right from the eastern side of Maxwell Road onto Bridge Road, however a new u-turn facility will be constructed on Bridge Road to facilitate this turn.

The works will be carried out between Sunday evening and Saturday morning each week, and are expected to be completed by the end of July, weather permitting. In addition, no work will be undertaken between the morning of Thursday, 18 April, and the evening of Sunday, 28 April, to avoid the Easter and Anzac Day holiday period.

The section of Bridge Road between Beovich and Kesters Roads will also be resurfaced with works planned to occur in May and June.

We thank motorists for their patience while these important safety works are carried out.

I would say another area that needs upgrading is Kings Rd from Salisbury highway to Bolivar Rd it will only get worse with Northern connector traffic along with the section from Bolivar Rd to Liberator drive roundabout all this needs to be duplicated/widened and some roundabouts enlarged or replaced with traffic lights i.e. Liberator Drive intersection.

Kings Road is terrible.

The Parafield crossing needs to be grade separated ASAP. But of course its the usual safe Labor seat issue, which means that it won't be an election issue. The crossing actually is the border of Spence and Makin federally.

It needs to be 2 lanes in either direction for the entire length, luckyily there is space for it to be widened after the Salisbury highway. Removing the level crossing would turn it into a pretty good arterial road

Whites Road should be reconnected because this will take pressure off of Bolivar Road.

Speed limits should also be 60 on roads such as
- Martins Road between Shepardson Road and Burton Road

- Saints Road

- Cross Keys Road/Fenden Road

- Frost Road/Clayson Road

- Kesters Road

80 kmh Speed limits should be trialled on
- Salisbury Highway and John Rice Avenue
- Philip Highway and Yorktown Road
- Bridge Road
- The Golden Way
- Golden Grove Road
- Main South Road between Reynella and Old Noarlunga

Once the Northern Connector is open I'd like to see Port Wakefield Road between Gepps Cross and Virginia increased to 100kmh

Also increase Main South Road between Darlington and Panalatinga Road to 100kmh

State Budget 2019-20: $1.1bn to be spent on regional road fix to curb unacceptable toll

Regional infrastructure will be a centrepiece of this month’s State Budget, with the Government promising to build $1.1 billion of projects to help reduce road deaths and injuries and boost economic activity.

Premier Steven Marshall has described the promise — made possible by an injection into regional roads by the Federal Government and an increase in South Australian mining royalties — as the state’s biggest ever investment in regional infrastructure.

Mr Marshall and Infrastructure Minister Stephan Knoll have earmarked keys projects around the state worth $1.115 billion, courtesy of state and federal funding.

They will be launched with $440 million over four years, in the Budget on June 18.

Major regional roads to receive infrastructure upgrades include Victor Harbor Rd, Horrocks Highway and Sturt Highway.

In February, the Sunday Mail revealed regional leaders had joined forces with South Australia’s Local Government Association and the state’s peak motoring body, the RAA, calling for a fix to a crumbling rural road network that they said was risking lives.

It followed a campaign, Fair Go For Our Regions, which included the Sunday Mail and The Advertiser spending weeks in rural and regional South Australia listening to community concerns and aspirations.

Since the start of 2011, 537 people have died on regional roads in South Australia, compared with 285 on metropolitan roads.

Mr Marshall told the Sunday Mail that the road toll was unacceptably high.

“This senseless loss of life on our roads simply has to stop,” Mr Marshall said.

“This is the single biggest investment in regional roads in South Australia’s history, and a true reflection of the value we place on our regions and saving lives on our roads.”

Mr Knoll said the State Government was confident of bringing forward more funding in upcoming budgets.

“The Federal Liberal Government has provided a massive funding stream and we are working furiously to deliver these projects as soon as possible,” Mr Knoll said.

“Last year, the Marshall Government successfully brought forward around $600 million from outside the forward estimates to inside the forwards for projects including the Gawler Line electrification, Pym St to Regency Rd and Joy Baluch Bridge duplication. Now the Federal Government is out of caretaker mode, we have resumed those discussions to again bring more funding inside the forwards like last year.”

Opposition infrastructure spokesman Tom Koutsantonis told The Advertiser this week Labor would be keeping a close eye on how much funding for infrastructure would be included in the forward estimates.
