The steel frame for the carpark has shot up pretty fast. I was driving down Wakefield Street, and was surprised as to the speed of construction. The steel skeleton is quite visible and reaches a similar height to the Flinders Telstra Exchange.

Yes, I was walking down Roper St a couple of nights ago, and was surprised to see the framework there too!

I wonder if there will ever be a fixed crane on this site given the level achieved with the current crane.

Reminds me of Flinders Link build. That started off with a mobile crane and ended with a fixed.

Not quite. Flinders Link is composed of 2 buildings. The IAG Building and the Santos HQ. The IAG Building was built using mobile cranes entirely whereas the Santos HQ was built with a fixed crane entirely.Pistol wrote:Reminds me of Flinders Link build. pedantic.
The fixed crane sat in between the two buildings so it's rather hard to say that IAG was built entirely with mobile cranes - it wasn't.

How am I being pedantic?Pistol wrote:pedantic.

I am just telling it how it was.
The IAG Building was NOT built at the same time as the Santos Building. The IAG building was built between 2004-2006, whereas the Santos Building was built from late 2005 to 2007. Hence by the time the fixed crane was erected to build the Santos Building, the IAG Building was pretty much structurally complete. I even have photos to back up what I'm saying.

I was surprised to see a core-box starting to climb on this site. Maybe the office component of this development isn't too far off?

The car park would need its own core box to house the lift and stairs.

Not necessarily if the car park connects directly into the office component of the building as a few other similar buildings do. I'm not sure how this one has been designed though.AtD wrote:The car park would need its own core box to house the lift and stairs.

Stage two (the office accommodation) has been delayed and stage one (the carpark) is to fend for itself, if I understand this project correctly?

From today, you can see the two slip forms (core boxes) in this picture. I think the office component must be under construction too, the smaller core at the rear looks as if it services the car park. Time will tell I guess.
