The panels are more than likely alucobond. Its a composite material and is about 6mm thick. i cant remember exactly.
If the whole building is a nice shiny silver/grey, the building could look great. Lets wait and see.

Read the plans, and although it's an improvement on the initial proposal, that improvement came from rock bottom. It's vile.
Enjoy looking at this from Vic Sq.

I'm instantly reminded of lipstick on a pig.

Remember the Uno? Not one kind word was said about it until it was nearing completion.
[U/C] Re: APP: 399 King William Street | 48m | 15 LVS | Student Ap
I think there was atleast one post which basically said "atleast it is something tall and takes up that spot" oh and something about blocking out another buildingReb-L wrote:Remember the Uno? Not one kind word was said about it until it was nearing completion.
but you are probably right, the Uno copped a fair bit....what that doesn't take away from the concept of his building looking like a polished turd.

Depending on when/if the Caledonia proposal goes ahead, the bane on the landscape from this development might be quite limited.
Also, my 'OKness' with this proposal is probably induced by my (unfortunate) day to day familiarity with what is on this site right now... broken pavers used for car parking on what should be one of our premier boulevards is not a great look either...

walking home from work tonight (during the rain blizzard) I noticed temp fencing has been put up around this site, so not long to go.
and I think it maybe time to wait until buildings are completed before going cuckoo about designs

Hi Will
Yep, that bulldozer has been flat out all morning. Earlier today all the old cinder blocks and pavers in the fenced off bit right on KWS were also being dug up and loaded onto a truck. Lots of hosing down of the walls as they pull them down.
edit - just looked back at the earlier renders and realised this building is more of an L shape than I originally thought.

From the new Tangcheng website:
In July 2010, the company bought the second site which located in 399 King William Street, Adelaide SA 5000. The site area is about 493 square meters and it closes to the train and bus station, the traffic is very convenient. The planning application of this project has been approved by Adelaide City Council. It plans overall 15 levels of student accommodation. The ground level designs for the lobby and reception, and a restaurant which is about 200 square meters; the restaurant not only services for students, and also services for the public. The design of Student accommodation is a new-style design, each accommodation includes two rooms or three rooms; each room has independent bedroom, study area and bathroom; each accommodation has a sharing kitchen and lounge. In the building, it also designed public's laundry and activity rooms for the students. This student accommodation building will provide better live and study space to the students in Adelaide.

1) This development is actually a fair distance away from the train station.
2) Chinese are useless at English.
