Rather surprised (but V happy) that this is still moving on. Location on Sth KWS west side in the vicinity of the other high risers will help create a conglomeration of workers and residents there that may be enough to reach a threshold that generates more of the same development there rather than being an isolated extension of the CBD proper.
Out of six high rise bldgs possible that end we have now lost Hills and no more mention of Brecknock. (which was still a remote proposal AFAICS - a far as I can see).

Seems there have been plans to incorporate the facade and turn into a 15 level hotel. I wish this plan was proceeding. Would be great for the area.
And some more renders of what is proceeding:

Well that looks rather dumbed down, doesn't it? That first render, incorporating the existing building, looks really cool.
cheers,

What's your source, Ben? Does this mean the project is not dead?
[COM] Re: #SWP: 379 King William St | 40m | 11lvls | Residential
No this project is far from dead. Internal demolition has been occurring for the past few months and they lodged an app to demolish all buildings on site a couple of months back but is still awaiting approval. The renders are from David Dawson Architect www.ddarchs.com.auAtD wrote:What's your source, Ben? Does this mean the project is not dead?
i also wish the hotel proposal was the one being constructed.

The council still has not aproved the demolition application lodged back in February. I belive they won't them to retain the facade but the developers don't want to so they simply aren't approving it...

Thanks for the info mate. What a pain that info is. IMO the old facade not up to the need to preserve. Meanwhile, the ACC stops another development!
BTW - Can you refresh my mind as to why the hotel idea did not proceed?

Is this bldg supposed to be going up in FEb. 2010/ (see crane counter thread - last post).Have seen no info but happy that this is going ahead. A 10 - 11 floor spine down KWS will greatly enhance the 'city feel' down there as well as help cause a stronger need for a decent tram shelter in KWS Sth.

There are a lot of issues going on behind the scenes. The development company sent through a demlition app in February and have yet to have it approved. As son as it is approved it's full steam ahead.skyliner wrote:Is this bldg supposed to be going up in FEb. 2010/ (see crane counter thread - last post).Have seen no info but happy that this is going ahead. I suspect the delays may have something to do with the fact that the ACC has included the Caledonian Club in its list of 300 buildings to add to its heritage listing.Ben wrote:There are a lot of issues going on behind the scenes. In that case I strongly believe you would be right.
As an alternative, the company could include the facade as originally in the Hotel proposal. ). I presume they would already have construction drawings of this due to the hotel plan. If they want to get on with it, this seems logical to me as they were originally prepared to have the caledonian facade.
As a result I suspect there could be something else involved as well concerning the delay. Eg - become unfeasable due to cost from postponements leading into the construction industry recession.
