When you load this all up in google earth.. is there any way to distinguish between the buildings that actually exist/are complete and the buildings that are proposed/under construction (particular the pie-in-the-sky ones)?
Great work btw.

Thanks fellas, the missus was really busting my chops about spending so much time on sketchup this weekend
Your enjoyment makes it all worth it.
Muzzamo we may have to do a little reorganising down the track, and split them between built/proposed/neverbuilt. Right now that hasn't been set up, but you can hide the buildings you don't want to see.

Going for a walk down there on the weekend has given me second thoughts about building the marj on the other side of morphett street bridge. There's just so much untapped potential there for a world class entertainment precinct. Anyhow that would be discussion for another thread.

Being a rail fan, I cannot help but comment on Adelaide Railway station. It is simply fantasic to say the least. Certainlylooks like you have put in a huge amount of detail into it. May we ever see a modeled tram infront of it in the future with these models
That is probably asking too much of you so I will leave it there.
Just a historical note about the railway station, it is actually the third one on the site. The first one was built in 1856 for the Adelaide to Port Adelaide railway and was a simple single storey stone structure. As the rail network grew over the next 20 years, it gradually became too small to meet the needs imposed on it.
Original station 1856-c.1876
In c.1876, the second station building was opened. This was again a stone building but was two storey. This one had enclosed platforms with a British style 'train shed' built over the platforms. The platforms were apparently paved with a red brick similar to what we have today. This station eventually also became rather small for the needs imposed on it by the 1920s.
Second station c.1876-c.1928
The 'train shed' over the platforms.
The current station was only completed in 1928 under what was known as the 'Webb era' when the SAR had an American as the head of the railways who was brought in to rebuild the railway system. The current station almost bankrupted the state during construction and was based on 'the' Grand Central Terminal in New York. Originally, there were 13 platforms but this was cut back to the present 9 in 1984 which also saw them placed under cover as they are now.
Sorry to go on and on like that but while I am all for development in Adelaide (and it is overdue that something happened here), I have always enjoyed looking back as well as looking forward. Anyway, back on topic

Nice historical photos Will409, thanks for posting that. I did know it wasn't the first station on that site, but i never knew it was the third. I'll try to add a little more detail to the station as i go along, so long as a tram doesn't add too much to the size of the google sketchup file i'll do it.
Btw guys, another one up.
