+ some photos of the new footbridge under construction to the new development area to the north (across the dock inlet) that is being prepared with early works.

+ some photos from the other side of the Port bridge, near Glanville - there are lots of residences and apartments under construction, with many next to the water - while the building designs are pretty standard for medium density housing, the development itself feels quite open with lots of space around. The apartments and houses with direct river / water views are pretty good with the apartments currently under construction facing the river priced at >$1m.

new building for the RAN at the Frigate shipyard site - there were two new destroyers docked there yesterday, probably final part of commissioning.

The AUKUS site has had pretty well nothing done - over 3 years since the announcement and not even preliminary site clearing works (which could go in parallel to the shipyard design).

Update on the footbridge being installed at Dock 1 - should be completed soonish. In the background looking east is a new pre-fab commercial office / warehouse development which has appeared pretty quickly over the past weeks.

There's no point building for the AUKUS build when we are nowhere near construction on the subs even starting.
Buildings and machinery require maintenance and upkeep,would be a waste of money surely at this stage.

The container terminal will be undergoing a complete transformation worth multiple hundreds of millions of dollars. Extension of warf area for berthing larger ships, new traffic management to better accommodate the through traffic of road trains, new larger ship to shore cranes and investing heavily in autonomous technology to dramatically increase efficiency and capacity.

Let's hope the master plan includes some food or cafe offerings for the tens of thousands of workers in the naval shipyard space - currently serviced by one single Funk cafe and the few offerings at the nearby North Haven Shopping Centre which is a 10 minute walk away. Seems a massive oversight so far but perhaps still early days.

How much scope is there to develop housing north of the Port River Crossing? On the Lefevre bank there are regular sailings for limestone and oil traffic. On the east bank, Dock 2 hosts the tug fleet, Berths 18-20 see regular non-containerised traffic, Berth 27 grain and Berth 29 rail-borne containerised ore exports. The storage yards either side of Ocean Steamers Rd were used over the past 2-3 years for the staging of the wind farm turbines and tower between arrival at Berth 18 and transport to the Goyder South wind farm. There is significant industrial, commercial and rail activity in the vicinity Ocean Steamers Rd and and Grand Trunkway.
The current and planned housing at Fletchers Slip, Dock 1 North and the former Invitec site are appropriate in harbour areas that have not had shipping movements in recent years.

I've been of the opinion for a long time that Gillman should be an industrial hub, and the port/shipping activities should be pushed as far north as possible.
Something like this, forgive the shitty paint job.
Red area would be housing and commercial, yellow would be where port/shipping activities would be moved to further north and along the edge of Torrens Island and at Gillman setup an industrial hub. Eventually move the rubbish dump and waste services out of the metro to the north, there's a smaller equivalent near Two Wells that could be expanded. The green areas would be conservation parks similar to the ones that exist already, rehabilitate that land and turn it into green space basically.
And move the passenger terminal to Glenelg and expand the container terminal.
Build a couple road and rail bridges as well, with at least the northern most opening or high enough for ships to pass.
It's pie in the sky dream of a massive state building endeavour, but lets look at the situation that's unfolding. Does it make sense to have all this housing popping up right near a heavy polluting site like a cement factory? Or the fertilizer plants? Or ships unloading building materials/mineral sands? There's even a noisy and dusty metal building materials recycling yard there.

The whole area from the peninsula to Gillman and the Wingfield tip and the salt pans needs to be looked at as one larger overall project imo.

Seems like an odd choice.

It makes sense from a connectivity point of view. Practically on the wharf, close to rail infrastructure, really good road connections.

But a location out at Direk or Edinburgh pretty much offers these same things, with presumably lower land costs. Seems odd to not have some level of housing/retail of what is such a prime piece of Port Adelaide land.

I assume soil contamination would be a big factor?

I guess there is the argument that Gepps Cross isn't too far away? Still, I think given it's practically on the North-South Corridor would have made it a great location for a homemaker centre. Perhaps now that that has fallen over, they could look at realigning/straightening the P/R Expressway?

That sites pretty much cleared now.
Across the road as well on the south west corner of that intersection some precast warehouse (?) has started going up, saw tooth roof too.
