As I get off the bus I always make it a point to turn to the front of the bus and give a small wave saying out loud "Thank you Driver" just before I duck out of the bus. A little bit of courtesy takes next to no time at all and is surely appreciated by a person who probably has to deal with rude and unappreciative types all day every day.

PS: I'm 40 so not an old fart by any stretch.

I'm 25 and I do the same, where possible.

25 also. I always thank the driver when I get off.

As a former driver I'll gladly say that greeting the driver and thanking when alighting is the done thing in Adelaide.

I'll also say that in the course of your 6-14 hour shift you'll meet the widest range of people possible. Every day you'll meet a top person but you'll also get genuinely ripped to pieces by someone. Every day. The key to keeping your heart in the job is holding on to the good ones. If you are courteous to people and greet them as they board then you're going to have a more enjoyable job than the ones who don't.

I understand how the grumps came to be that way because they've been worn down. I chose not to be like that but I understand the ones who don't. Some of the abuse you get is just so below par it isn't funny.

Greeting the driver is a small thing to do but it does go a long way. If the driver is making no effort to acknowledge your presence then he's a grump and signalling he wants to be left alone. But if the driver has turned to greet you then do it.

Here's an on-board video of the bus going through the tunnel, along Hackney Road and the first part of the O-Bahn.

2 minutes 30 seconds from Grenfell St to the old decline at Gilberton - not bad at all.

This was at 5:30pm as well.

The traffic on Grenfell Street was really bad though, they might need to adjust some traffic light sequences.

Great Shots.

They'll be the successor to the 'Smart Stops' which were installed in 2002 and decommissioned a decade later.

With route changes, surely they could have changed the bus numbers as well, to remove obscurities like the H30S

Some weird choices, like on Currie Street most buses have changed their dropoff/pickup spots. Lots of confused commuters last night.
