I have a different view about the routes. I think it will be:

Glenelg to AEC

East End to West End

South Terrace to Festival Plaza


That will allow a 5 minute frequency along the current CBD corridor.

Am I the only one shocked by the forethought used in the “well we were going to disrupt the Nth Tce/KWS intersection once for the East End extension so we thought it was better to do all the preliminary work for a North Adelaide line now so its only disrupted once.” ?

or has my expectation from this govt become so low that just using common sense gets a round of applause these days

I like it. I'm curious if they costed the extra bit to AO. I assume the bridge is the issue. Which would costly.

Actually if Stephen Mullighan had anything to do with that decision it doesn't surprise me. Just like T2T with the extra bit under Torrens road.
He's doing a pretty good fucking job all things considered in this state including his moron colleagues. For our states sake I hope that he gets up as the next Labor leader and not that unionist loser Manislaukas or whatever his name is.
He should be the states treasurer as well not that moron Tom.

Just wondering, why would crossing the bridge be costly? It's already wide enough, and presumably it is strong enough to carry trams, as it carried them in the past.

Even if the tram went two stops to AO, some people would still then be saying oh why don't we just extend it to at least the start of O'Connell Street in North Adelaide, and even then we'd be saying oh why not go all the way down O'Connell, and then even then why not just that bit more to the start of Prospect Road, and so on.

I think what we will see is a very staged expansion of the tram network, yes we need infrastructure spending, but we also need jobs and it would actually be very smart to go about this in a staged approach as that would ensure that the jobs actually stay in tram infrastructure construction and planning at least for 10-20 years?

Yeah I don't know. I was only speculating .

They want federal money to get to AO.
Playing the game smart, Feds put in 20% more money, then we get a cost saving on our 80%. Might end up as a 60:40 split of costs instead of the current estimation of 100:0.

Also time for the state government to install electronic destination boards on all city tram stops.
I.e. "Next tram : Festival Plaza - 5 minutes" etc.

Hopefully we get simple tram routes : Glenelg - Festival Plaza and East End - AEC.
Colour coded on transport maps (blue line, red line) or Numeric T1, T2 etc.

Simple branding goes a long way to get the travelling public to work out where they're going.

Why? They haven't done this (properly) with our bus network, why would our relatively straightforward tram network get such special treatment? It's an unnecessary cost that could be better spent on say wi-fi signals at each tram stop encouraging people to use the real-time app.

Why not both? Have the scheduled time, then 'refer to the app for exact time' or whatever.

Yay! Love this tram extension and extra trams announcement. It's happening!

I like the look and practicality of the side platform stops, the wires from light poles (potential wire-free) and better mix of public transport, pedestrians and vehicles / elimination (?) of parked cars along our main cultural boulevarde.

The extra trams/routes provide a great boost for tourism. You can't discount the value of a walkable/accessible CBD combined with trams - frequent, free, on highly visible routes. Great for locals, international students, hotels, hospitality, attractions and events.

Kudos to Mullighan and others for ..

The City South tram stop is well overdue. Interesting to hear about the inclusion of rubber inlays (Jetty Rd) to assist cycle safety. Will these be used/needed for the Tour Down Under city circuit on the final day?

The (temporary) terminating stops, opposite Festival Centre and the East End, flag the continuation of the lines north and east. Sooner rather than later!?!

Interesting to read forum speculation on routes, reasons why the northern spur does not go to AO. Will Turnbull, who likes photo opportunities on public transport, follow through by putting funds in to supporting major State govt public transport infrastructure projects like the tram extension? Hmmm

The spur to the Festercentre from the North Tce intersection is something I am a bit curious about. It was reported as being included so that the intersection is only dug up once. That's a good idea, quite smart thinking. However, does that mean the track and Festercentre stop are just constructed to ensure that extension to North Adel and beyond doesn't foul Nth Terrace, and they won't be used for regular services till the extension proper occurs (except maybe special services thru the Festival, or short workings if the Nth Tce extension is closed for some reason)? Or is there going to be a regular service terminating north of the Nth Tce intersection?
