No, they wouldn't meet disability access standards. They will all need to be full stops with platforms.

If so, do we have a company in Australia capable of manufacturing switches of this scale (grand union)?

Melbourne has been using Czech manufactured special work.

Does the stop midway down Jetty road (stop 16?) meet disability standards? Could something similar be used on other routes?

Yes, that stop meets access standards after the platforms were installed a few years ago. It can be delivered in a similar street environment, it depends on the surrounding buildings, streetscape and land use.

Here's another option shown in a photo taken by Tony Prescott in Vienna. I believe Melbourne has some as well.

It was worse in most Australian cities where the tram stopped in the middle of the road and people had to get on and off at road level. Just imagine ladies in long skirts trying to get on a D class in the middle door.

Anecdotally it's my experience that congestion on north terrace is primarily west of king william anyway. It's a poor choice of route for traversing the CBD in a car so not overly sympathetic for any impact the tram extension has.

interesting that yesterday trams were running a 10 minute daytime service(same as a Saturday),rather than the normal 15 minute Sunday timetable.
Loadings were good.

So are we all forgetting about the coast to coast light rail and Gawler line electrification that was supposed to have happened by now because of this new and shiny proposal?
Okay.

Electrification to Salisbury 10 years after full electrification to Gawler was promised is not really the same thing.
Hows that tram to Semaphore and tram-train hybrid thing for the Outer Harbor line that was promised going?
