Beer Garden
Re: Beer Garden
My 3G reception on the tram is excellent. Are there Internet elves in the roof? Perhaps I need to spend more time in here downloading por....I mean, um, browsing SenAd.
Re: Beer Garden
Our fair city made it into a recent parody on youtube. Tom Daley is currently one of the world's best divers
On a serious note they spent two weeks of training here in Adelaide and one week in Sydney. Just shows that we are back on the map for professional swimming and diving athletes.

For Xaragmata, the former Sizzler at Salisbury is finally demolished!
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

Thanks Scooter - I noticed it heavily fenced a few weeks back, but it was too wet to hang around. The Scooter Guy wrote:For Xaragmata, the former Sizzler at Salisbury is finally demolished!

I never found out why they decided to have the Clipsal500 at the same time as the Fringe/AdelFestival this year. In previous years it's followed after the Fringe/AdelFestival. Has it always been that way or is my memory faulty?

Re: Beer Garden
Clipsal has generally been around the middle of March (17th-18th etc). Normally it follows straight on from Fringe and every two year Adelaide Festival.
Festival organizers knew Clipsal was on at the same time this year, poor form by them for not working around it.
And Crawf, who the hell is Tom Daley?
And what were you looking up on youtube to come across a video of half naked blokes dancing around? Do I even want to know?

Re: Beer Garden
the city was goin off. I highly recommend people to check out Barrio, the late night festival outdoor venue behind Parliament House. Excellent venue, free entry after 9:30pm and a great spot. Very interesting how they have done it updsriggs wrote:My GOD is the East End of town jammed tonight! Amazing!

Re: Beer Garden
Recent comments in this forum alerted readers to the impending closure or closure of some historic hotels and also loss of venues for live music. It's sad to see this happening and it looks like it's a sign of the times. Pokie venues continue to thrive and expand while iconic, much loved, well sited live music venues (often in historic buildings/hotels) suffer, face difficult conditions or closure or get demolished.
One such historic live music venue (the Annandale Hotel) in Sydney has an unusual campaign to avert closure. Just a thought - can people power help to save a beloved icon?
(Or support a worthy cause. See example of the big organ, located in the Festival Theatre, which was purchased with the support of the public.)
Check out the 'Buy a Brick' campaign to save the Annandale here.

Re: Beer Garden
The city was so alive tonight!, the East End was full of people and this weather couldn't be more perfect.
Gluttony is fantastic, but the gardens seem to be losing it's mojo. It's still good but I'm really not a fan of the Sideshow Alley area, that area was dead compared to the rest of the gardens.

Re: Beer Garden
Quick question.
Passed the ETSA Utilities building (cnr. Anzac Highway) yesterday but there was no big sign atop the building? Naming rights (identity/branding) is a big thing for business. Is this a temporary thing or is there another explanation?

Re: Beer Garden
Sir Robert Watson-Watt is credited with inventing RADAR during WW2 to help the English spot the Luftwaffe flying over the Channel.
Many years later he was caught speeding in his car by a radar gun and wrote an ironic poem about it:
"Pity Sir Robert Watson-Watt,
strange target of this radar plot
And thus, with others I can mention,
the victim of his own invention.
His magical all-seeing eye
enabled cloud-bound planes to fly
but now by some ironic twist
it spots the speeding motorist
and bites, no doubt with legal wit,
the hand that once created it."

There's a fella from Brazillian TV doing a piece to camera from the Oaklands Park train station right now. Not sure it's a good image of Adelaide for international viewers.
