Is anyone else perplexed by this whole Jim Stynes thing with Akermanis?

He basically said what most logical, sane people think.
Why is he getting a state funeral?
There are many great men and women who do a lot for the community..none of them get state funerals.

Akermanis might not have said what he said with the most appropriate words, but he was spot on with his criticism regarding the state funeral.
And the stupid thing is, if he had said what he said about Stynes as a person on the football field, and thrown in something about how he will be missed and blah blah and been all emotional, there wouldn't be this uproar.

It comes down to freedom of speech in an age of political correctness, rev.

You can't suggest that Aboriginal players might be unreliable even if they often are, nor can you call an acknowledged saint a demon even if he sometimes was.

Truth has nothing to do with it.

Auld feminist bat Eva Cox said something very enlightening about Germaine Greer the other day. She said

'What people don't realise is that Germaine isn't a commentator, she's a performer. Her act is to shock, upset and outrage people.'

Keep that in mind, and I think you can see what Germaine Greer is up to these days anyway.

Similarly, the off-field Jason Akermanis is a performer rather than a source of any wisdom. His act too, is to arrest and shock. So don't worry about what he says, just applaud, and he might do a handstand.

Warning - under no circumstances induce Gremaine Greer to do a handstand.

Google Maps has been updated - when you zoom in, it swaps from the old satellite image to a recent one.

The older version was better. Cant zoom in with as much clarity as the older one. Google must have had too many privacy related complaints

If you hover over the map options in the top right and untick the '45°' option, you will be able to view the satellite map normally again. Alternatively, you can change the direction of the 45°view using the compass in the top left.

Google Maps has been updated again. To 8-bit NES graphics. They've got a character of a panda at Adelaide Zoo, which is nice.

Is Gawler's economy that depressed? I went there and found some shops already relocated, closed & derelict including Angus & Robertson, SolarShop, CGU, Mint Avenue, Pet Ideas, Simply Pine Plus, Mannix Air, Solomons Flooring, etc. I just want Gawler to stay alive. I feel like I want to be Mayor of Gawler.
For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

Have a nostalgic look at some O-Bahn videos from the late 1980s!

question that I was going to start a new thread on...but wont.

Why is Adelaides CBD located where it is and so far from the coast?

The only reference I have ever been able to find is an obscure quote from Light saying people won't understand (can't even find that now)

Why is it so far from the coast and in reality located next a seasonal stream, is there anything that outlines the logic behind the location?

The conspiracy theorist in me suspects that Light foresaw the onset of global warming and aggrevated climate change and consequently, rising sea levels, and so positioned the CBD where it was, atop a hill, so that the western parklands would become the coast in a few hundred years time.
