I think it's just because it's white at the moment. The Festival Centre adheres quite strictly to it's octagonal base whereas the facets on the Convention Centre seem to be more free.omada wrote:I wonder if it's deliberate, but this extension appears to reference the Festival Centre, look at the angular roof line.

The final cladding should commence soon. I think it looks great.

If only they would upgrade and modernize the bridge..it is after all a gateway into the CBD...EBG wrote:

never mind about the bridge, how about sprucing up the old '80's ASER hotel tower at the rear. It has looked dated from the moment it was built...faux sandstone and unfinished concrete service wells....YUK!

Maybe they'll finish it one day, and put the twin spires on that the original design clearly called for. Meanwhile it's the missing tooth in the beaming smile that the Riverbank development will become when it's finished.claybro wrote:never mind about the bridge, how about sprucing up the old '80's ASER hotel tower at the rear. I think the concrete is fine (although the grey panel behind the signage is silly), but the sandstone does look a bit dated. I think the bones of the hotel are fine, but maybe if they reclad the sandstone and addressed some of the ground level areas it might make a decent amount of improvement.claybro wrote:never mind about the bridge, how about sprucing up the old '80's ASER hotel tower at the rear. Sorry no pics - has always been just a wild assumption on my part. Has always looked unfinished to me.Llessur2002 wrote:I never knew that. Any links to pics?Honey of a City wrote:Maybe they'll finish it one day, and put the twin spires on that the original design clearly called for.

The self erecting crane has moved to the southern side (north Tce ) of the site .Work is progressing on the western side facing Morphett street bridge.

Only in Adelaide can we have these modern developments split by those ugly rowing club boat sheds.
Also whilst the upgrades to the convention centre have been good I think Adelaide has missed a huge opportunity. Imagine had the upgrades all been done as one big development with retail and restaurants fronting the river and Adelaide Oval. It could have been Adelaides Southbank

Restaurants are coming to the festival plaza. And retail should be branching out from Rundle Mall into Grenfell Street and North Terrace, creating a small, isolated shopping area would be a poor idea IMO.
In terms of the reference to Southbank, why do we need to emulate something when we can create something unique ourselves.

I'm no fan of the rowing club sheds either, but to say only in Adelaide on that issue is nonsense.
The should have demolished them, and built a storage facility underneath the redeveloped Convention center, at least then it would be integrated into the redevelopment.

Distant shot from the weir.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
