Had to take a look at the trees!

Thanks, Andy! I didn’t get a chance to take any pics yesterday, and they are pretty difficult to describe in words. Not the greatest looking specimens just yet!!

Unbelievable.. this is getting beyond a joke now.
Maybe the architects brief was for trees that never drop leaves. So they said, ok here you go.

If the photos are where I think they are, the planting schedule indicates that there should be three peppercorn trees (though it's hard to tell if they're following the plans). All the same, leaf drop wouldn't be a surprising condition for mature trees of any species being transplanted.

I was thinking yesterday the trees were either Kurrojongs or Peppercorns, and with SRW’s comment they must be Peppercorns. The very detailed planning application document first shared here in mid 2020 shows exactly what the public realm will look like, including tree species, greening, paving:

The height of this is now around 115m, maybe it should have its own thread?
Description
Variation to DA 21020053 [DA 020/A012/16 V5]) for the construction of a car park over five (5) basement levels, a 27 level office and educational establishment tower and a retail building of up to three (3) levels, including minor changes to the design of the mixed-use tower, basement bicycle parking and building plant. The variation is for two (2) additional levels of office floor space with an associated increase in building height, external alterations to the tower façade and nomination of five (5) signage zones on the tower façade.

Managed to get a closer look through to the new paving going down on the plaza and where the tower will be today:

FFS, being critical is one thing, but they're mature trees being moved, leafdrop and/or removal of leaves is common.

^ this

Give it a year or two before critiquing the tree choice.

You got to let them actually grow leaves, my guy. Then judge them.

Yes that reminds me exactly what they said about the tree inside Burnside village!

What do the two situations have in common, other than involving a tree?

A mild attempt at sarcasm but like Burnside we were all hoping things would improve (then cue these sad looking trees) but actually kept getting worse… but hey, I agree, let’s hold out for hope til the very end.
