Not everyone wants to live in quiet dead suburbs.
Wayno and I certainly don't and we ain't even asian.
Well given Australia is in Asia....I've often wondered why we aren't considered an Asian country.

But I agree, Mall should have apartments in it/on it or atleast adjacent to it.

Not sure what your school taught you, but mine taught me Asia and Australia are separate continents and therefore Australia is not in Asia, it is in Australia.

Have the buggers gone and moved it???

When I was in school, I learned that there were 7 continents. One was called Asia and another, completely different one was called Australia. My kids learned the same thing when they went to school. Where did you go?

I really think that Australia is considering itself more of an Asian country as time goes by, I certainly get that feeling when
I walk around the Adelaide CBD. And it's all the better for it.

To be fair, it is not about Aussies or Asian but mentality. Human need time to adapt new environment or culture. However, if a person choose to be stay the same forever without any intention to improve/learn then he/she will fall behind in the future. If the people does not support breakthrough development then they can’t complaint about jobless rate because there is no business opportunity or additional income available in Adelaide to create more jobs.

Having cultural and economic links to Asia does not make us Asian. Nor does having a large Asian population living here make us Asian.

Asian culture and religion has existed in North Africa for centuries - the Islamic faith and customs originated from the Arabic Peninsula, which is in Asia - yet the people are still considered North African, not Asian.

yes, no doubt, but I'm talking about a region not a continent.

Lets face it, Oceania was made up by a bunch of Europeans because they didn't want to their colonies to be considered Asian

Where do you get this stuff from? Why on earth would islands thousands upon thousands of kilometres from the Asian coast ever be considered Asian?

I think you'll find all the continents' names were made up by Europeans - were they scared that everywhere might be Asia?

I guess the same way Russia is part of the same region as Indonesia... you know given how close they are.

edit - well from what I understand, the term Asia comes from Ancient Greeks and the Europenas just kept it rolling.

Oceania is just a creation of the countries colonised by European contries (hence why part of Indoesia is in etc) nio idea why, but heck way off topic

sorry mods and everyone else.

The plan is for a swimming pool on level 1 above the shopping arcade and there will be a
glass ceiling so the people in the arcade look up to the swimming pool above.

Cool finds on the photos, where did you locate them?

I really do hope this goes ahead.

if the developers want this to sell well and quickly, I'd follow the lead of VUE and push for a front-page piece with The Advertiser reading "new tallest residential building for Adelaide". I don't like the paper myself, but marketing in such a way seems to work well in Adelaide.

From the Elenberg Fraser Website :
This 29 storey tower is set to puncture the stratosphere of Adelaide’s built environment; its 94 meter height making it taller than any mixed-use building in the city. A thoughtfully folded, glowing gold lantern rising above the mass of historic buildings at its base. The form of the building is cinched at the waist, jutting in and reaching up with appealing angularity. The geometric arrangement of perforated gold screens across the east and west façades provide solar and wind protection for the apartments, and balcony activation behind (with the north and south sides reserved for balconies). The shimmer effect is amplified with silver balustrades and reflective glass on the apartments. As night falls, their translucency accentuates the golden glow of the tower, lit from within like a beacon for the future of one of Australia’s rapidly growing urban centres.

An existing arcade is to be incorporated into the ground floor plan. Fittingly, for a project that mediates past, present and future it’s named Renaissance Arcade, and runs east to west through the site with a new access point on Austin Street. A glass section of ceiling will treat pedestrians to a view up through the communal pool on level 1. The single-storey heritage building Assay House, located at the corner of the site, is also being retained, creating an intriguing street retail frontage on the ground level. The geometric form is both a complementary and contrasting texture to the heritage buildings surrounding the site, including one of those famous churches. The podium also contains carparking provisions and retail space. Moving upwards, level 29 features communal kitchen and lounge facilities and generous terrace space, with views of Adelaide’s skyline and renowned botanic gardens.
