News & Discussion: CBD Retail
Re: New Retail in the CBD
Praise be - I'm on the look-out for a fetching new warm-weather dress, and the current selection just doesn't cut it.
Re: New Retail in the CBD
Australia's largest Globalise store opens on Friday at the top of regent Arcade. It's not the type of store I was expecting or hoping for but it's better then a giant Cheap as Chips or the like.
Lisa Ho opened 2 weeks ago and Ed Hardy and General Pants Co. both open on Friday!
Zimmerman is due to open 30 Nov.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
We sure are getting a little desperate to have a 'new retail' thread in the CBD development forum.
Times sure have changed from a year or two ago but I suppose that is the boom and bust development cycle.

I've noticed Amarin Thai 2 on Rundle St has closed, and there's now signs up indicating yet another fashion store is taking it's place. At this rate, Rundle St is going to be nothing but fashion stores by this time next year.

I think that even if we had 23 tower cranes in the CBD, Ben would still have created this thread.UrbanSG wrote:We sure are getting a little desperate to have a 'new retail' thread in the CBD development forum.

Don't you think its exciting that some big brands are opening in Adelaide for the first time? I think it's great, and does not mean we are desperate.
Re: New Retail in the CBD
Let's not go overboard, only 2 restaurants have closed in Rundle Street for fashion stores in the last few years. This is no big deal, particualrly when you consider the restaurants that closed. Rundle Street is more suited to European type cuisine. I don't think the loss of Amarin and Silk are too big, because when i think about Asian food, Rundle Street is not the first thing I think of.Nathan wrote:I've noticed Amarin Thai 2 on Rundle St has closed, and there's now signs up indicating yet another fashion store is taking it's place. I heard yet another rumour that Victoria's Secret is going to open up there.Nathan wrote:I've noticed Amarin Thai 2 on Rundle St has closed, and there's now signs up indicating yet another fashion store is taking it's place. I find this unlikely, as the shop does not even exist in Sydney yet.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
I'm more referring to the number of new fashion stores opening, rather than the number of restaurants closing. It's good that there's fashion stores on Rundle St, but there needs to be a bit of variety in the kind of retail. I've long felt there's a real need for a good independent bakery on Rundle St (And would have suited a building like the one Silk was in really well) - some good quality food that isn't a sit down restaurant.

please send some ACC councillors and business leaders to Christchurch to see how to develop laneways. A city of around 400,000 people is outdoing usAtD wrote:Nathan, that sounds like a fantastic idea for one of the laneways!

No Will I don't think it is exciting that some big brands are opening for the first time in Adelaide and having this thread in the CBD Development forum does seem desperate to me. Just my opinion though.
I would have the thought the General or Pub thread would be more appropriate.

Re: New Retail in the CBD
I only went away for 8 days, and come back to find a huge Globalize store in the new upstairs part of Regent Arcade. The inside, and the orginal ceiling look fantastic. Make sure you all go up the escalators and have a look.
That new Ed Hardy store is a tad expensive though. $180 for a pair of surfie boardshorts, wtf

Re: New Retail in the CBD
This is exactly why I put it in the CBD thread because i thought it would get lost anywhere else... and it did. I did not notice it was moved here.
I want it back in CBD thread... just my opinion as to me retail development is still part of CBD development and yes i would have included this thread no matter how many tower cranes as the point I was trying to make is Adelaide is starting to get some international brands, which i think adds to the diversity we already have on offer.
I was simply trying to promote the fact. nothing to do with being desperate
