nearly every inch of that thing from top to bottom has already been destroyed by no good punks. Graffitti, broken windows etc etcPistol78 wrote:I went past there today (err yesterday) and noticed a lot of demolition work being carried out on the southwest section where the BP used to be. They were also just about to bring down that 4 or 5 storey yellow brick unit block down... Should be a good sight if anyone wants to camp out!
shud just let them demolish it... saves having to pay for demolition

Yep, from ends of the earth:
I alternate between rail and road, I'm too socially conscious to drive every day, plus it costs more, but frankly I enjoy driving (even in peak hour) and rail takes about 15 min longer each way. I park my car at Mawson Lakes (15 mins), take an express into the city (15 mins) and then an all-stopper on the under-used Tonsley line (30 mins). On the return trip I have to wait at Adelaide for about 10 minutes. Or else, I drive, and it takes 45 mins on the way in and an hour on the way out.
Because I'm travelling counter-peak on the southern half, I'm always one of a handful of cars speeding past an endless line of stationary traffic. I'd love to see a bus lane along the entire length of South Road, even if it's just a peak use only lane, because the buses get stuck in the idiot commuters. More people need to take trains.

Well AtD you better start getting used to good ol marion road now, heheh
Or maybe just take the train, there will be an increase in traffic in the other south bound roads, eg goodwood, marion rd etc.

I came to work today via south rd and was surprised at the demolition progress(?) in the south/anzac area. the space that has been cleared is huge and extends further each side of anzac than i thought it would. there appears to be lots of space now available except for the red brick building right on the corner - i can only guess that that will go but has been kept for a little longer for whatever reason ... or will it be tunneled under? anyone know?

I think they're just waiting for the occupants to get out. The multi-story apartment block is totally gone now, btw.

That 'red brick building' is a surgery and it won't be closing until later in the year when their new building next to the shopping centre just sw down the road is complete.

Here’s some food for thought. How about a West Lakes Boulevard style central reversible bus lane for South Road, between Anzac Highway and Alyiffs Road? Every day on my horrid commute I see buses stationary in South Road traffic. A bus lane can easily move more people than two traffic lanes.
The problem I can see with this idea is it would require the removal of dozens of right turns. It’d also require island ‘platforms’ for bus stops. It could be possible to acquire front yards and car parks around some areas to provide space for these and longer, larger right turn or U-turn lanes where applicable.
Just an idea.

Traffic would still flow smoothly (a relative term when we are talking South Rd) if the right turns were abolished except to main roads such as Henley Beach.
Bus stops however would be a problem.
Definite potential with this idea.

While you lot are brainstorming ideas, how about we turn South Road into the worlds first reversible main road, much to the dismay of the Southern Expressway. :wank:
The bus lane idea is shockers, how can you justify accomodating room for placing a bus lane in the middle of south road when there simply isn't enough room? What about complications, like the underpass and overpass?
There is no viable solution for South Road at the moment. Get over it, for now. Re-visit the issue when the goverment has a spare $2billion to upgrade the road to freeway standard.
