The Austral comes to mind as a cautionary tale. Formerly a popular live music venue, the beer garden was closed for soundproofing due to surrounding apartments, only to never host gigs of the kind again.

The Exeter also suffered from noise complaints from neighboring apartment owners and had to stop having gigs in their beer garden.

I have to say I'm not opposed to allowing a taller building but it strikes me as the sort of carve out that allows bad faith developers to undermine the planning system. More so with the the apparent 'expedited track' the government has agreed, which I hope doesn't exempt them from other design standards.

Why was this changed to a 98m/29 level development? From my understanding (InDaily as my source), it’s been offered to the developers that they can build up to 29 levels but whether they do or not is yet to be put forward by the developers…
Frankly, in its current form, the Cranker as a cultural institution only really works with the neighbouring Roxies and Chateau Apollo operational, sad but true. It’s a precinct after all.

According to the Save the Cranker group, the current operator has a right of return after a maximum 2 years, and has no plans to leave or change anything. The legislation also says that the building must always be a pub, and has a right to operate as a live music venue.
The developer might even have to stump up for real sound proofing in the tower to make it work from their end.

Hopefully this gets torn to shreds by the planners.

Not sure why people are celebrating this, regardless of their "emotions" connected to a pub.
This is a terrible outcome, and sets a terrible precedent. Then again this is South Australia where most people can't see past their own self interests regardless of the bigger costs/negatives down the track.

They are celebrating because it was, in fact, a great outcomerev wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 9:50 pmNot sure why people are celebrating this, regardless of their "emotions" connected to a pub.

That render looks heinous happy to not see this one go up. What’s with that dark wall? It’ll fade in the sun within months

That render has been done in Sketchup not in CAD.
