Anyone seen the teddy bear out near the runway at the airport?


He is always doing something different when i fly back for the weekend sometimes...

Australia Day he was in a chair with a beer in one hand and an Australian flag in the other.
random weekend he had a road workers vest on.
and this morning when my girlfriend flew back, she sent me a message to say he was in his chair again, fishing in a puddle!

I think its classic, and good on the guys at the airport for having a sense of fun.

Maybe we'll find out in the paper or the TV news tomorrow. Don't think John Howard chartered a 747. Hope it wasn't some kind of problem.

You'd be surprised how often 747's land in Adelaide. Malaysian and Qantas do it regularly and Singapore have their freighter a couple of times a week.

As for the bear, i'll have to keep a look out for it on Monday and Friday next week. Will report if I see it.

The Qantas 747 was diverted to Adelaide possibly due to a medical emergency. Although there have been some diversions from Melbourne due to heavy fog over the last few weeks.

The only scheduled 747 services into Adelaide are the Sinapore Airlines Cargo flights which come in about 3 times a week and Malaysian Airlines fly a 747 in peak periods.

Hopefully we will start seeing more 'Jumbo's' here in ADL

You'd be surprised how often 747's land in Adelaide. Malaysian and Qantas do it regularly and Singapore have their freighter a couple of times a week.

According to the timetables the Singapore Airlines B747 freighter is the only regular visitor to ADL. They may be exceptions occasionally but Malaysia and Qantas don't regularly visit here with their B747s. Malaysia for sometime now fly their B777s here. Yesterday morning's Cathay Pacific flight to MEL (then HKG) was a B747 (an exception). It flew right over my head at Norwood. This morning's (Sunday) flight to MEL was their usual A333. As already announced CX will operate daily flights ADL-MEL-HKG and HKG-ADL from October 1st with the A330-300 (A333).

A medical emergency would be a probable reason, thanks bm7500. According to the schedule the freighter visits Tuesdays and Saturdays. I doubt you will see a 747 on regular flights except for those exceptions already noted.

Granted. However, dont take the schedules as gospil. The last few times I was meant to come in on scheduled B777's (Qantas & Malaysian), they were upgraded to B747's.

Does anyone know why planes have been flying directly over the main CBD core. Quite a few times sunday night planes were flying straight over the Waymouth St area.

A HOTEL is the latest development proposed for Adelaide Airport.

Adelaide Airport corporate affairs manager John McArdle confirmed the airport had been approached by a hotel chain about building a hotel near the terminal. But he would not reveal which chain.

``It will be 140 to 180 rooms and incorporate its own car parking and conference facilities,'' he said.

He would not reveal how many storeys it would be but said the site allowed up to eight storeys.
``I'm not saying it will be eight storeys but that is what is allowed.''

He said the hotel would be directly opposite the terminal and the two would be connected by an elevated walkway.

``It will offer a whole new level of service for those people who need to catch earlier fights.''
Mr McArdle said the airport was in the process of preparing a report which residents would be able to comment on. He said once Transport Minister John Anderson had approved the report, more details would be made public.

``We anticipate (details) would be released at the end of September or in October.''

If they can build an 8 Level hotel in the actual airport why in some parts of the CBD is the hight limit less than this due to "air space regulations" ie around West terrace.

I still believe that once the airport is due for its next major upgrade that it should be moved to edinborogh with the RAAF moved out to Monarto or something.

No use doing it now as we have just spent money on the terminals etc, but once they get old and crappy again then we should move it out. Not for the purpose of height restrictions but more for curfu, rail line, lack of housing development potential in an area so close to the city etc.

Also the area space is much bigger there so this would cater for more future upgrades and more possible runways etc.

Doubt this will happen after so much investment at West Beach, however it is an interesting idea that has been discussed. One issue they must confront if this is ever going to happen, is that they need to plan now for runway extensions. If that area up there keeps growing there may be buildings (housing estates) built where runways should be extended. Also terminals have to be built, a hotel ...roads and public transport infrastructure, etc.

Nice. Now bolster parking with a multi-level car park and leave some room for a tram (light rail) station not far from T1 arrivals/departures.

What sort of comments do the public (NIMBYs) have on this matter besides the fella on Sir Donald Bradman Drive opposite IKEA who owns the only hotel in the area? The owner would need to upgrade their accommodation and give guests a free ride into the Airport or lose business.

there are a few small motels on tapleys hill road also.... not that that changes anything...
