But I also get the impression that, because the Northern Expressway is effectively (and has previously been referred to as) an extension of the Sturt Highway (National A20), does that mean it will be signed M20/A20? And if it does, what does Main North Road south of NExy then become?

One option - Main North Road, for about 40km's north of Gawler Belt is signed as A32, before A32 branches off and becomes the Barrier Highway to Broken Hill... perhaps when NExy is finished, A32 may be imposed on Main North Road south of Gawler Belt to Gepps Cross.

Not sure what they're going to do, but in any case, a change of route numbers means one heck of a lot of signs to change (and more $$$ in the process)
you are correct, NExy replaces Main North Road in the Auslink network

DTEI lacks logical planning sequence. It looks as rather than doing things in the best
and most logical order they are doing things as funds are provided by the relevant
authorities... This just shows what lack of influence this department has within
its own government and federally.

What i am getting at is the absolute farce of a situation that is Port Wakefield Rd.
I use it daily and the delays are ridiculous, but what is bad in the planning sense is
that the DTEI planned to duplicate it by extending the Northern Expressway to
connect to the Port Expressway. However the problem lies in the fact that they
are upgrading Port Wakefield and during the years it takes them to get around
to building the Northern Expressway, the number of heavy vehicles using Port
Wakefield Rd will mean that it will need another upgrade by the time they finish
the Expressway....

That's why they're investigating the Northern Connector.

good progress is being made on this project, much of the topsoil has been stripped between Port Wakefield Road and the Gawler Bypass and major work at the Curtis Road and Angle Vale Road interchanges has also commenced.

The changes to the interchanges are now in the fly-through, including the Port Wakefield Road graded interchange.

Thanks. Interesting to note that the Northern Connector is provided for in the Port Wakefield Road overpass. That will be an interesting interchange.

I worry that single lane roundabouts may not be enough, especially at the Angel Vale Road interchange, which looks like it'll will carry traffic from Gawler to South Road and the Port River Expressway.

Now that's a real project! Every time I go to Victoria I get very impressed by the sheer scale of their freeway projects, and its good to see it happening right at home.
