Re: The SA Politics Thread
Anyone who thinks malinaskuas is not going to win in a landslide is delusional. Vincent Tarsia is a slimey greasy water rat with no charisma.
I think Labor will soon have complete control over the legislative council and lower house. Peter is very popular.
Would be amazing if we get to host COP31, I don't know if the airport has the capacity to store so many private jets!

Re: The SA Politics Thread
I agree that would be an amazing achievement from here.
There's also the possibility that we'd have a different premier because Mr Malinauskas has moved on to bigger and better things.
Re: The SA Politics Thread
Despite all the gossip about Mali making a move from State to Federal politics at some point later in his career, I can't see him being anything more than a minister in a future 2031/2034 federal Labor Government, but not PM. The East Coast has a monopoly on that position. Also it would be a very historically significant shift to have someone serve as Premier then go on to become PM. We're not America where governorships / serving senators are usually seen as an ideal stepping stone to the presidency.

Make of Spiers what you will, but imho he is right the federal branch needs to step in. There's obviously people within the SA branch who don't want that to happen.
As for COP31, good I hope the airport and parafield don't have enough room for any of their private jets. Let those hypocrites fly commercial like everyone else, instead of lecturing the rest of us about how we should cut our carbon footprints down while they continue to gallivant around the globe in their fleets of private jets and yachts while living in mega mansions with a fleet of luxury super cars parked in their garages. Nothing wrong with that life style, but don't live it and then hypocritically tell the rest of society that they should cut their carbon foot print.
These pricks do more damage to the environment in a year you and I could in 100 life times.

The irony isn’t lost that they want to hold a climate conference in a city that still relies so heavily on cars over mass public transport.
A half-diesel, suburban-only rail network that’s had only one significant expansion in the last two decades, abandoned grand plans for a tram network, and a bus network in need of rejuvenation to make it easier to understand and use.
There are climate friendly policies we have in this state, transport is not one of them.

He's angling for a job overseas. Either in some grifting think tank or working in marketing with arms manufacturers is my guess.[Shuz] wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 4:18 pmDespite all the gossip about Mali making a move from State to Federal politics at some point later in his career, I can't see him being anything more than a minister in a future 2031/2034 federal Labor Government, but not PM. George Reid was premier of NSW before he was the 4th prime minister, so there is (ancient) precedent for being a premier then a PM.[Shuz] wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 4:18 pmDespite all the gossip about Mali making a move from State to Federal politics at some point later in his career, I can't see him being anything more than a minister in a future 2031/2034 federal Labor Government, but not PM. If Mali hopes to be well-recognised nationally, he needs to do it before his candle fades too much. Beazley made it to leader of the opposition and deputy PM from WA. I don't have a Tas or SA example to hand, but the right person can break the NSW/Vic stranglehold occasionally. We have a lot fewer members, so the person has to be seen to be good for the job.

Its a drinking club for elites. I think they'd prefer a more prestigious location for their junket.Spotto wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 5:57 pmThe irony isn’t lost that they want to hold a climate conference in a city that still relies so heavily on cars over mass public transport.

SA wine is reasonably prestigious on the world stage. That could be a drawcard.abc wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:09 pmIts a drinking club for elites. Or, maybe, just maybe they are interested in what they say they are interested in, and SA's solar achievements are worth something on the world stage. Of course, some people will always put others down, and belittle whatever we do. Negative Nellies have existed forever. It's as if saying something positive about SA is an impossibility for them...and as for actually doing anything positive...SBD wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:18 pmSA wine is reasonably prestigious on the world stage. Edit. I'd add that SA has done a lot in terms of use of renewables and battery technology. Queensland and NSW still have a lot of coal generation going. Brisbane has electric trains, but it's otherwise somewhat of a laggard. NSW is building trams in Parramatta, to follow on from the tram in Newcastle and in the CBD. SA has lagged there. Having said that, SA has a solid record around the Festival and Fringe, which keeps things hopping up till the end of March, so there's a lot of experience that we have in big events.
