...You're joking, right? Have a look at the photos above, they're yet to apply the final cladding on the Torrens end, the building is largely a skeleton on the North Terrace end and isn't watertight, which for that reason they haven't even begun the internal fit-out... Whilst I'm hopeful that this will be finished earlier than the second half of next year, if that does happen, it will only be by a couple months.Plasmatron wrote:Completion is schedule for the second half of... next year? Surely they mean this year. It looks almost finished now.

It has to be completed by August next year as the international space conference will be on in September.Patrick_27 wrote:...You're joking, right? Yep. I'm one of the ones that likes it. It looks futuristic to me, like a cadre of space ships landed on the banks of the Torrens.claybro wrote:Thanks for the photos Wayno. It is all coming along so quickly now. Still cant bring myself to like the most recent stages as much as I try not to hate on it. Just looking like a jumbled mess....but that's just me, others may love it.
Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Word is on site they are saying that it must be finished by June because there are bookings.ghs wrote:It has to be completed by August next year as the international space conference will be on in September.Patrick_27 wrote:...You're joking, right? There is some interesting work happening at the moment on site they are building two large turntables with hundreds of seats on them that can turn around to view multiple stages, it's going to be pretty impressive when it's finished.

Riverbank Precinct and 'BioMed City' via Adelaide Convention Centre.
The Convention Centre will be able to host much larger conventions soon. This item on their site includes graphics and and a look towards the future of this rapidly emerging Riverbank precinct. This development, and a projected increase in reputation ('BioMed City') should be a huge boost to winning more, and significantly, larger conventions for the Centre.
Bonus: New, state of the art CC buildings, ideal Riverbank Precinct location and proximity to the emerging medical/research/education hub, plethora of hotel accommodation with tram links, the North Terrace Cultural precinct and more( great for partners of attendees).

Any images of the cladding? Keen to see if it will look like the renders. Really liked the design.

Hard to tell if it's the cladding proper or another layer of insulation going on. Whatever it is it's got a white vinyl covering on it so can't tell the final finish at this stage as far as I can see. Looks good though - the cladding smooths out the angles of the building.

I assume thats waterproofing going on at the moment.
[COM] Re: Adelaide Convention Centre - Stage 3 | $350m
Thanks for clarifying guys. Any chance we can rework the stage two facade? It still looks so out of place and cheap.

Swap out the brown alucobond panels for copper or some other material/colour and it might be saved.Mpol wrote:Thanks for clarifying guys. Any chance we can rework the stage two facade? It still looks so out of place and cheap.

Picture from yesterday for Mpol. From the left is the original layer then moving to the right there are 2 additional layers but as Llessur 2002 said hard to what the final colour is because there is a protective film on one layer. The orange mobile crane (right side) is working on the Play House roof upgrade.

From this angle it looks great, however looking at it from the west or front on, the building looks detached, which is why the previous design trumped this. It'd just a shame that they couldn't have merged the original building with this extension a little better.EBG wrote:Picture from yesterday for Mpol. Also, what are the InterContinental doing about that side of their building? I know that the plans for the festival plaza upgrade state that the loading dock will be lowered and accessible via the new underground roadway but will there be any activation of the new area above between the casino and the convention centre? Perhaps a new entry or restaurants?
