pretty bad that this is the norm for Adelaide train stations:

even with billions being spent, they cant spare anything not even a new bus shelter to make this high-frequency station look a little better in the short term

Electrification and Resleepering of suburban rail network

How do we even know that the alignment has been thought through properly, it's merely just a broad vision and long-term goal for now.

From Wednesday - track has been laid through Salisbury station (looks like offcuts with lots of welds, but nice & level)

It's good that the state government are finally "officially" considering it, im sure if rail electrification has the same effect as renewing the Glenelg Line, then tens of thousands more people are going to start using the trains and Adelaide Railway Station feels like it can barely cope with today's peak hour passenger numbers. The locations for new stations are good, although for Adelaide Railway station it would be good if they could build a fracking western entrance when they build the underground platforms!!

This is long overdue and will end the mess that exists in organising trains coming and going from the cbd, which will worsen as we increase services...

I am not one to comment on construction, but could we also use this as an opportunity to keep the existing platforms as they are for regional/interstate train services, replacing Keswick Terminal? The new 'subway' platforms could either be built underneath or next to (on North Tce with cut-cover) the existing platforms??

Either way.....

Downer’s Rail division has over 100 years’ experience and is the leading provider and maintainer of passenger and freight rolling stock in Australia. The division continues to supply approximately 60 percent of the active mainline locomotive fleet in Australia.
Downer Rail selected Blue Sky to undertake the industrial design of the next generation trains for its Adelaide tender.
Blue Sky were chosen to design the exterior and interior for the new trains as part of Downer Rail’s submission to supply one of the most important infra-structure projects in the state’s history.
The team developed an all new cab design including upgraded ergonomics and interior layout. The passenger cars have been redesigned with new seating, lighting and interior fittings. The whole train represents a new generation in terms of passenger comfort and travel experience.

My guess would be for the renewal of tracks at Mawson Lakes itself. The tracks through the station are the only section of the line that have not been/are being upgraded yet as they are the only section that has remained open through all the track closures.

Electrification and Resleepering of suburban rail network

#1410 Post by ac83 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 9:09 pm

These photos were taken at 8.30pm tonight at Mawson Interchange. The old tracks and ballast have been removed with the new ballast being delivered today. There's still a long way to go by the looks of things. Plenty of machinery onsite. Due to be finished by first train service tomorrow morning.
