I like how the girl with the bag conveniently blocks off the location of the "unannounced" Apple store. :secret:

Fairly decent skyline impact, however it would have been great if it was closer ro it's original approved height or higher. Photo taken last Friday:

19th of March if all goes to plan.
Yeah, it's almost there. I also know that they've got the majority of the Coles staff sorted out, coming in from other stores.

There was a big printed board on the fencing for this building facing rundle mall with some new stores listed on it. Should have taken a photo.

ChillyPhilly wrote:I don't wish to come across as a negative nancy, but that blank stone face in Rundle Mall, back towards ground level, is dreadful. An architectural blight. I hope a few stores plan on chucking some logos on it.
I'm sorry but are you serious? This kind of simple facade is what we need. It's classy. Quality over quantity, etc. I'm so sick of Australian buildings being over done with tacky store fronts, spires and who knows what else in attempt to be "modern". We all know what happened in the 1960s and 70s with developments that set out to be 'ultra modern'. They are all very hated today. Simple, stone face works very well. Myer Centre is an example of overdoing it. It may have been modern and even stylish in early 90s Australia, but it is dated today. Hopefully Rundle Place will not suffer the same fate.

Classy? Lol. It looks cheap and bland.

Have a look at wintergarden in Brisbane

Or Westfield Sydney

Playing it safe by putting up a bland wall and hoping it wont date doesn't create interesting or diverse streetscapes, it actually has the opposite effect.

ah that Wintergarden shopping centre facade looks rather tacky and awful during the day when you see it in person. At night the effect looks good but when I went up there last year I was completely underwhelmed by Wintergarden and it ruins their mall streetscape.

I dont have a problem with the outside of Rundle Place, and its not finished either

You can't tell me Rundle Place is preferable over Wintergarden not matter how 'tacky' you think it looks.

Afraid I agree. plain can be great, but I this is just a white cube. Even the few windows they do have, has been plastered up with signs....
