This is the same copper cladding as used on the Adelaide Oval redevelopment, so it'll tarn and oxidise and change colour.
I think it will be spectacular when it's finished.

Any estimate on how long it takes to change colour i.e. start turning green/oxidising. Would 5 years + seem right?

The colour change has already started on the Southern Stand at AO, but for the full change, I'm not sure. I think the mix of glass with weathered copper on a modern design is striking.

The Convention Centre's website said the cladding is zinc, not copper. Not sure how that will weather but if the Oval is copper then presumably differently.

I believe zinc does develop a patina, but to what extent would depend on how it's been treated.

Zinc Oxide is a dirty white / grey colour. Not as interesting as Copper Carbonate's green. But yes, the result depends on the treatment.
(Chemistry question: why does copper tend to 'carbonise' rather than oxidise? Follow up question - is carbonise a word?)

copper does oxidise, to Cu2O (4Cu +02 ==> 2Cu2O). The colour of oxides can vary from almost clear (aluminium Al2O3) to black (Cu). The green copper 'oxide' comes from the Copper oxide reacting with water and sulphur from the air in the form of hydrated copper sulfate.
and yes the ACC stage 2 building is Zinc (ElZinc)

Nice puff piece I guess, but I'm sure Kodo was more than 30m tall

I clocked that too... oh dear!
Did enjoy the piece though - I was waiting for the inevitable switch-flick to negative, and the opinion of a bunch of angry fist shaking members of the public - but it never came!
A refreshing change.

Not bad, though there is sooo much more they could of added to that report. Interesting they choose to focus on Kodo, when there are two buildings proposed that will be taller than Westpac.
Even Sofitel would be a better choice.

Meh it's ok, a better material on the outside, even just a more reflective material would have made a world of difference.

To be fair, Aeon's lovely pictures are in the shade of the evening. In person, in full light, the finish has an interesting optical quality.
