Heh.

I'm not worried about that part, my concern is it's going to look odd with an awning on one side and nothing on the other.

It is. It will be very obvious that the awning was supposed to continue all the way along. Unfortunately the owners have allowed the design of the building to be sigificantly compromised for the sake of securing one particular tenant. Something they should never have even considered.

I suppose the good news is that if Apple moves out it won't be all hard to fix that problem and put the awning in.

Ughh...how do you guys know it will look obvious it was meant to continue, and thus, look bad?
Have you traveled forward in time to when this is finished and seen it first hand?
Or just more assumptions?
Some people seem to complain so hard, as if this stuff affects you personally..

Btw, the feature wall over hang thing on Grenfell street has gone up, don't know if anyones noticed it..
I didn't realize it would have a bumpy, wave type effect..looks quite good.

Well Rev, with respect I don't need to travel forward in time to see how incongruous the building looks. The way it looks now (from Rundle Mall at least) is pretty much the way it will look when finished because it's just about structurally complete.

The feature wall overhang sounds somewhat interesting, but I hope it's not something that will further detract from the overall look of the building from Grenfell Street (which is already severely compromised by Apple and not all that well designed in the first place). I'll have to see how it looks from Grenfell Street though.

You're happy to complain about a building, yet you weren't even aware of the facade for the Bendigo Bank tower, which has been shown and talked about plenty in this very thread?

I also noticed the overhanging Bendgio part placed this week. Looks quite good. Does anyone know if it is jutting out a lot still? I saw it on Thursday and it seemed to be sticking out quite a bit onto the road. Not sure if it was placed yet though.

Hi Tim
Apple's $2.5M store spend in Rundle Mall

by:
Tim Williams

From:
City Messenger February 19, 2013

ADELAIDE'S first Apple Store comes with a $2.5 million price tag for fitting out its Rundle Mall shopfront.

City Council planners have approved the fitout for the two level store within the Pacific Group's $385 million Rundle Place centre, which is set to open late next month.

The expense is vastly more than other retailers are spending on their Rundle Place shops.

A list of recent development applications on the council's website shows Terry White Chemists are spending $335,000, Espirit $308,000, and Blue Illusion $160,000.

The Rundle Mall Management Authority last month confirmed Apple was coming to the mall, ending a year of speculation.

The City Messenger asked Apple when the store would open but the company, which is notoriously cagey at releasing details about new stores, declined to comment.

Comment is being sought from Pacific Group, which has previously been silent on reports of Apple opening in Adelaide.

another image of a Rundle Mall front I saw searching google:

The first proposal looked decent, but still average:

It looks even worse in person as well. But it's only Harris Scarfe and Coles, we shouldn't have had high expectations.

How the hell did we go from an interesting and nice-looking streetscape in that 2nd picture, to the bland streetscape in the 1st example?

by how good is he
Don't know if its on here but have been told this developments cost is $350m....so it's not like they didn't have the money to produce a better result.
Also still don't know how they got approval to hang the massive feature wall/Adelaide Bank logo some 5m to 10m past the boundary of the property.....jutting out into Grenfell St .... with no benefit that I can see.

Such an disappointment.

The interior better be much better than this. Don't have high expectations though.

I have to admit, it is starting to look really uninteresting, I'm hoping there is something left to do.

(but really, it doesn't look much different from any of the other buildings developed recently, which means it is keeping to the "character" of the area.
