The first proposal looked decent, but still average:
It looks even worse in person as well. But it's only Harris Scarfe and Coles, we shouldn't have had high expectations.
Just on the renders again, the first looks cheap and nasty, belonging more to a provincial city than a capital - very bland and does not draw attention at all.the 2nd is FAR better - what you'd expect in a city. Even puts the idea into one to look inside. Can't understand the change. As has already been indicated - disappointing.

Gentlemen, calm down. You're seeing a placeholder in the first render. As far of the fit out process (inclusive of external facade treatment) goes, this is sitting with Apple, not the Pacific Group who supplied the renders. Think of a house builder, they give you the floor plan, it's up to you to fill it.
The design team that created the NY Apple store is looking after this fit out, as they did with the Sydney store fit out.
All I can say is lets wait before we grab our collective undergarments and arrange them in a pretzel shape...

Funnily enough, I'm in NY at the moment and went to the 5th Ave Apple Store (the cube) today and... it had a tiny verandah over the entrance (ok, it was less than 1m deep, and practically invisible unless you're standing right at entrance, but thought it was amusing).

The glass awning is starting to go up. The façade is almost complete.

A second hoarding for the Apple store is being assembled now, with the original set to be removed very soon. From what i could see inside the centre, it's going to be pretty spectacular.
All of the awnings on the Grenfell st side, including the carpark are now complete too, and it looks quite good.

On the Apple Store Terrace issue, I really wish the ACC would've said to Apple that "We don't negotiate with terraces". Hahaha. I do hope noone has created that pun before me!

Dammit, that is one ugly building! If it weren't ugly enough, the Apple Store ruined it further..

I had a sneaky peak of the inside with all the mood lighting switched on. It kinda reminded me of Star trek: The Next Generation's Enterprise.
(Sorry couldn't get my camera out at the time.)

Just for anyone interested who may not have seen it, an advert in todays Advertiser said the current Harris Scarfe store in Rundle Mall Plaza closes this Friday.

Bit off topic, but I can't seem to find a forum that is home to general Rundle Mall banter...
I've been poking around the Mall recently to see where potential shopping arcades could be re-built and further harnessed. With the Renaissance Building now having undergone upgrades for Kmart's arrival, I can't see any development happening there.
One area I did find could be perfect for a new commercial opportunity is the Southern Cross Arcade and surrounding buildings, on the South-Western end of the mall a few shop-fronts remain empty; one of which is Ice? These few buildings along with the Southern Cross arcade could be demolished and re-built into something much more welcoming and exciting. As I mentioned in the 'CBD Retail' forum, Officeworks and Big W remain out of the Adelaide CBD, if they were to re-build that area; along with Cheap As Chips, either store could take up tenancy in the new building and giving the Mall yet another competitive ground against the suburban shopping complex's such as Marion and TTP.
Just a useless idea I pondered...
Thoughts?

Unless I dreamt this the other night, but I swear I saw an article recently regarding the new HS store. It had an interior photo and something about mannequins
I can not find it anywhere. Gah

Walked past tonight and the hoardings were being taken down and Grenfell street being fixed up. Harris scarfe, coles, and rundle place Signage is up Aswell as a sign saying office works for the ground floor retail area of the car park.
