Adelaide's Air Quality
Re: Adelaide's Air Quality
About what time was it? I was looking out over the city from my office, and all i noticed was the heat coming up from the roof of other buildings. Seemed pretty clear the sky did.

I was driving along Grand Junction road near the jail going where you can see parts over the city. All the sky was a brown colour. It was about 11:30am.
Then a bit later about 1:00pm I went with some people to the Cross Keys pub. One of the other guys in the car saw it and said is that dust or smog as we were driving along with a view of the hills.

It's often dust in the northern suburbs if there's a weather front coming though. One thing I don't miss about Adelaide is that occasional summer dust storm that's followed by a piss-weak cool front. There's just enough rain in it for it to be raining mud for a while, then the water evaporates and everything's dirty.

The smog certainly seems to be worse than it was back around 2000. Back then you used to be able to see a filthy layer of smog over the north-western area around the port and that when coming down the Southern Expressway or Tapleys Hill on a warm day.
On Friday the 4th I was out fishing in a boat at sun-up down Maslins way and watched the smog develop as the sun came up and started heating the air. I could see it with the naked eye, but it stood out a lot more with polarised glasses on. It was really thick back towards Adelaide, but you could see it all along the horizon down the peninsula as well!
Now where's the smiley for vomiting?

That's got more to do with light pollution - light scattering from streetlights, etc. Down Noarlunga way before Seaford Rise and all that was developed you could see the Milky Way at night. Now you can't see many stars at all.Brando wrote:^^^^ Your right mate, i spent new years in Mildura with my future in-laws

Head into the Flinders or outback beyond if you want to see stars at night You can lay back and let your eyes adjust to the darkness for half an hour or so and there's millions of stars. You can see the Milky Way and Magellenic Clouds, loads of shooting stars and even satellites orbiting above. Fantastic.

Never argue with stupid people. They just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
