[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
There is already a thread for this one titled 'Large CBD Office Refurbs', as this proposal has been around for a fair while and has gone to tender. I am surprised we haven't seen a render yet. Not sure what the moderators want but given there are going to be a number of office reurbs it might be easier to have the one thread for all buildings?
[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
Thanks Urban SG i knew about that thread but couldn't find it I guess i had a "guy" look haha. There are renders around which i'm having diffulty getting the guy in charge of the works to release but he said it will be in advertisements in the not too distant future anyway.UrbanSG wrote:There is already a thread for this one titled 'Large CBD Office Refurbs', as this proposal has been around for a fair while and has gone to tender. Yeah I almost couldn't find it myself beamer Thanks for the update. Sounds promising for a render soon. I hope the refurb is decent. I wonder if this one will need a tower crane? I suppose it depends on the scale of the works.
[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
That's great news, it's such a significant building on victoria square, a facelift is exactly what's needed.
[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
This is magnificent news. The SGIC building is in my opinion one of the ugliest high-rises in Adelaide. I really dislike how it makes such a strong presence of the western skyline view. Re-cladding this brown monolith in glass, will make a very big difference to the western skyline view. It will make the city look more modern.
[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
From what I've heard, the "Balcony" features of the building will be removed, to create a cleaner, more contemporary look. It will also be a facade of nearly entirely glass, which would look fantastic on such a prominent site.
[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
That sounds great Pikey. The balconies gone and a sheer glass wall effect would really modernise that part of town.
[COM] Re: SGIC Refurbishment
Sounds great... that building is hideous, and made worse by the fact it's so prominent.
Can't wait for a render.

For those of you that have a camera I suggest you go down there and take some pics for memory's sake. I know not many of you liked the current facade, but in the days it was built it was not much different than many other Adelaide buildings in sun protection. These days they are obviously looking to have more natural light and green features in buildings.

I just walked over there at lunch time, and I must say I don't mind the SGIC Building, although it looks like it could do with some brightening up - looks rather brown & dirty compared to the Hilton across the road (which it would complement nicely, if it was clean).
cheers,
