the empty parcel of land on the corner of Wright Street and KWS is owned by the state government.

It used to be owned by the federal government however in 2001, they reached an agreement whereby they would give the land to the state government if it gave them the land where the Commonwealth Law Courts now stand, and which used to house the old Police HQ.

The parcel of land is slated for any future expansion of the law courts.

Thanks for the info Will - this rings a bell. Out of interest, where does the statement that it's slated for future expansion of the law courts actually come from?

This is an interesting situation. The site is actually for sale:
http://www.realcommercial.com.au/proper ... de-5767195

In the information sent out it lists the option of either selling as a whole (with the development) or as separate bits. That it's now gone and been lodged for approval we can only hope that someone is actually interested in taking on the development as part of the purchase.

The site is currently occupied by SAPOL, who will be moving into their new building in 2012.

At its meeting this upcoming thursday the recommednation to the state government DAC is for them to grant planning APPROVAL to this development.

And just to confirm, after the initial confusion, the development is for a 9 level purely office building which will have a height of 34m. The developers had initially wanted to build a 10 level, 37m high building, however the ACC objected to this, forcing the developers to reduce the height of the building by 1 level.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news; but looks like this site's back on the market with DA.

Is this the one that is currently going up on Wright Street next to the Snooker Club?

http://maps.google.com.au/?ll=-34.93154 ... 5,,0,-8.63

Are there any details on what they are actually building now? I assume it is different to the original development application?
