perhaps you could start by not talking like a convict
You need to lighten up.
That's the second time you have failed to recognize a light hearted comment...

You obviously missed my intentional irony there.

We are a small state and hence our international profile will always be lower than the eastern states. Just like how more people would be aware of California and New York over Ohio and New Hampshire.
Furthermore I shudder to think at the politically correct name we would be given if we changed the name of the state.
Size shouldnt matter if you have a strong identity. If you look at Europe The netherlands are tiny compared with their nieghbors France or Germany or if you want to look at regions within countries I think everyody has heard of Delft and that is a tiny town compared with Amsterdam. Its all about a name that people can attach to a strong identity. I always thought that 'Gateway to the outback' was one of the best slogans we had because it is an iconic identity of this contry, that is what international visitors want when they come here, an experience they cant have back home.

And he said the ramifications would not just be for the national economy, but for the broader Australian society including sport.

The issue isn't so much whether we should change the name of the state, but rather, why do we even have states at all?

I think we would have a massive competitive advantage changing state name to Adelaide and capital city to Adelaide City. This would increase the exposure to the name Adelaide and over time would become much more familiar than say Brisbane and Perth IMO

agree with that...just have councils and the Federal government.
we have 1 level too many in the country.
Personally, we should remane the state when we break away from Australia with WA and NT.
They can be alled Australia and we can be called something else - whole new re-branding to be done!

nobody breaks away any more
the trend is the opposite, more centralisation of power

Rather than changing the name of state, it makes much better sense to just change to code but not state name or city name.
Personally, I prefer the name Adelaide cos it gives you some degree of feeling about history.
And, honestly not much overseas people know what NSW is all about but they just know Sydney so it's pointless to change state name.

I would support changing the name of South Australia but only if it was to Heaps Good.
