What do you consider old? And why wouldn't you want them there? Glenelg's a place for everyone to enjoy - not just kids with too much time on their hands.

I'd be more worried about the environmental effects than the social part. The development has made Glenelg into a great tourist spot, amongst both Adelaideans and those from interstate and overseas. But by looking around the development site, there will be some serious environmental issues within a few decades.

With rising sea levels, some parts of the site may flood during high tide, particularly the below ground carparks immediately behind the beach.

Also concerning is the uneven movement of sand due to longshore drift along this section of coast. The north side of the river at North Glenelg will lose all its sand if replenishment action does not keep up. It is pretty thin as we speak.

Yes = Positive impact
No = Negative impact

The recent Holdfast Shores development consist of the redevelopment of Moseley Square - also addition of new shops/cafes to Moseley square, the addition of the 'Beachhouse' which replaced Magic Mountain and the development of new apartments on the foreshore.

I'd like to see both sides to the arguement here. So if anyone has been affected in any way (Whether ur a local or tourist) in either a positive or negative way due to these developments please let us know.

The developments have been good... but it could have been a lot better...

Holdfast shores, the Marina etc will all date very quickly, it is unfortunate that a higher standard of construction/design, better utilising the beach front wasn't employed.

Those that criticise the development have an incorrect and nostalgic, fanciful view of what Glenelg used to be. However in fact they are wrong; before Holdfast Shores Glenelg was slow and many of the shops along Jetty Road were vacant. Where the marina is now there used to be a car-park which the nostalgics claim was a family fun park, but in reality it was a car-park where bogans would do burn-outs and drink beer. Holdfast Shores has had a massive positive impact for Glenelg. It has increased property values, it has added a new tourist assett to the state, it has also stimulated other improvements and modernisations across Glenelg. Although the development could have been better, for example the Colley Street facade of the Pier hotel is bland, Platinum should have been 15 stories and the shops fronting Jetty Road should have been 5 levels high and included a cinema, the development is still a positive move to Glenelg. One which future generations will acclaim as visionary.

Because we all know the website is the most important part of a development.
