Excellent news. It's already a lively area, so there isn't quite as much pressure on the developers from an urban renewal perspective, but no additional cafe or retail store in the area ought to be frowned upon.
Hopefully the ugly conrete extension on the southern side will get some attention, too.

Yes, I also forgot to mention, that the southern annexe built in the 1980s will be greatly altered and modernized as part of the proposal.

From architects website:
CML Hotel
King William Street, Adelaide, S.A.
A new hotel is being planned within the existing CML building that incorporates a new two storey addition to the western 1980's extension & creating an open air pool deck & basement food court.

I took a picture of these buildings whilst i was in town yesterday. The Southern Annexe is now completeley vacated AFAIK.
It will be great to see this site restored and moderised.
Does anyone have any updates on this one?

I would really love to see the brown building demolished and made way for a lively public plaza with a few eateries. Being in between two heritage buildings, the Treasury and the CML it would be just the perfect place to get away for a lunch break and take in the surrounds of the old and the new.

Love this building, it looks so New York, it has potential to be turned into a grand hotel.
Is the roof-top gym, pool and deck on 5th floor as mentioned, going to be located on the southern block that we currently see in the picture?
Has it been approved though?

This $27m project was approved last year but does not seem to register on your website.
Contact has been awarded to Marshall and Brougham and work is about to begin on this 1928 heritage building which has been much modified over the last 80 years.
It is to be converted into a 4 star hotel with Asian foodcourt in the basement where the Charles Sturt Tavern used to be. Architects for the project are JPE and the developer/owner is Adabco.

Very excited about this - as someone already said, so New York. (even Gotham city) Couldn't be a better place for a hotel. Hope they do not destroy the exterior design it has now - quite unique in Adelaide. Double fronted as well. It has an appeal of it's own. One of my favourites. There would not be too many highrise bldgs that would pre date this AFAIK.
ADELAIDE - TOWARDS A GREATER CITY SKYLINE.

The exterior façade will only be renovated to its former glory!

Is this the last of the original CML buildings left in the country?
