Yeah saw that too Pikey, wrote about it in SSC but ya beat me to it here
Not sure on the quality of the building a bit 'prison-like' but should be interesting to see some more bulk in that part of the city.

Is there a render with the article? And if so, is it the same old "remand center with tafe built on top" design?

Yes Chris it is the same render just not zoomed in so much. Gives a better perspective of it with the EDS building and Hyatt. Worried about what actual texture that pink/red/orange colour is going to be. Not bricks I hope!

gotta say personally I think the design is fine for what it is, not every building needs to be an icon. Bulk is certainly welcome and finishes will for a large part determine quality of appearance anyway. My 2c

There seems to be some confusion regarding this development.
So just to set the record straight:
Address: 88-90 Hindley Street (on the corner of Hindley & Victoria Street)
Floors: 16
Height: 46.6m (source: ACC)
I'm have mixed feelings about this development. Although I'm happy that we are getting another high rise building, the design is something I would have expected in the 1970's.

All 300 units have been sold!
With such a vote of confidence in this project, construction should be close now.

Has anyone got a recent render?
I'm clinging on to false hope that the proposal's changed.
In a big way.

I think the Knights Frank real estate website has an image of the proposal. I saw it back in January, however with the advent that all units have been sold, I'm not sure whether the image is still there. But give it a go anyhow. From memory the proposal has not changed.

Unfortunately the design hasn't changed. Seriously, I would rather this land be used as open space than this prison block get built.
Built Environs will be building it. Despite the claims that it's all sold out, they still haven't been given word of a start date.

I went to Hindley Street last Saturday, and it appears that the planks of wood which covered the doors and windows have been removed.
This could be irrelevant information but it just appeared promising to me.

So you actually like this thing, or is your point still that not every new development has to be a work of art?
