Although I agree that big business is the incarnation of Satan, for arguments sake, is it still not better to support a local "demon" rather than a foreign or interstate one that sends the profits out of SA?

I'd love to see OTR expand interstate.

Standalone shops, delis, etc have been in decline for ages. Multiple contributing factors. OTR is being demonised for driving that last coffin nail home...

Sure Will it's the lesser of two evils. But is that evil, lesser or not, necessary?

Peregrine Corporation are being demonized by me, not because they are successfull, but because of the way they conduct their business while pretending to be small South Australian local battlers trying to keep their head above water against the likes of Coles and Woolies.

The amount of small battler businesses that Peregrine have put out of business and forced to shut their doors is disgraceful.

Costco opened up, they also opened a discount petrol station. Next door is a Shell petrol station.
There's no issue with that because that's two major corporations going toe to toe.

Peregrine opened up a servo, around the corner from two of their existing servos, and two doors down from a small family run deli. That deli is no longer in business.

I remember when they reopened the Mobile on the corner of Holbrooks and Henley Beach roads as an OTR, when the Mogas just up the road offered fuel for 99 cents a liter for a few hours one day, the new OTR did the same thing(fair enough, it's two businesses run by very wealthy people taking each other on)..what was irritating was the Peregrine employee talking about how they are a small SA business, as if they are battlers.

If there idea of being battlers is driving around in million dollar+ vehicles and buying up an entire street of mansions, and then building a $10 million + mansion, then share some of that wealth with the rest of the battlers in the state so we can all live in mansions and drive a Rolls Royce.

Imagine if Coles employees appeared on tv talking about how Coles is a battler business...

Meanwhile, the paper today had a story on a small independent service station on Gilbert St in the city where they still actually do service. If you want a petrol outlet to cheer on, send your cheers that way.

That's bullshit, Bits. I have family who own a Subway in Adelaide's east which will close next week as a result of OTR at Tranmere driving down their business. It's not just delis or corner shops that they're killing, they're killing off franchise owners who can't match their losses elsewhere like Peregrine do with OTR.

Rather than OTR taking over every nook and cranny of South Australia's service station business and squashing any remaining independent servos both in Adelaide and regional SA, why don't they expand into interstate markets and shake things up with the bigger companies like 7-Eleven? OR do they only have the courage to bully small local business?

How will the Northern connector have an affect on this? The majority of business is going to come from the residential areas east of the location, mainly Salisbury and Playford councils. I'm sure the target consumer of a product that comes in a dozen is passing trucks lol. I'm not a huge fan of Krispy Kreme but it's business is not really related to passing traffic, they come for the doughnuts, get $30 of unleaded and some fast food Subway / Oporto or Hungry Jack's, OTR has it all figured out.

I wasn't actually referring to the trucks that use Port Wakefield Road but rather private cars, once Torrens to Torrens and Northern Connector are complete, I see little to no reason for people heading into the city or Southern suburbs from the north to use Port Wakefield Road, only those who live in the Adelaide's northern suburbs. Factoring in that, that's a sizeable chunk of vehicles that will no longer pass this store and if this location weren't about catching people who use this road regularly but instead those who live in the area, it'd have been more suitable to establish themselves in Elizabeth's town centre.

I saw another OTR being rebuilt opposite Harbour town on Tap's, and they had a second building behind the station. It wasn't far enough through construction to know if it was the same design as the other stores, but it seems like a location they would try to target for another Krispy Kreme.
