Cr Slama said the plan to change the square’s shape “was ridiculous”. “That would take us back to the ’60s,” he said.
W.O.W. Is this guy for real? God forbid, realigning the square wouldn't take us back to the 60's, it would take us out of the 60's which Adelaide seems to have been stuck in for forty-five years.

This council has already in such a short time frame proven that they're incompetent. Victoria Square is the heart of our city, and at this point in time, it looks awful; there is no balance between old and new and now the council are going to walk away from it?

They expect the government to provide them with necessary funding to complete it, but why should they? The government have at this point funded the redevelop a substantial amount of public space within the CBD (with more proposals to be funding in the coming years) and yet the council want to squeeze a little bit more out of them?
If the ACC aren't going to invest their earnings into Victoria Square, where else are they going to invest it? I don't see any alternative proposals that have surfaced.

I got one question....

WHEN IS THE STATE GOVERNMENT GOING TO SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH THE ADELAIDE CITY CIRCUS AND THE CLOWNS WITHIN IT AND RELEGATE THEM TO COLLECTING RUBBISH??

what's the alternative? fire the lot and elect an entirely new council, or fire the lot and remove the ACC completely and have the CBD run directly from the State government?

I know Lord Mayors are limited to 2 terms, but what about Councillors?

There is no limit for councillors. Look at how long Anne Moran has been there.

Surely there has to be a provision within either the electoral act or local government act that the State Government can intervene and sack the Adelaide City Council and either appoint an interim council until new elections are held or take over all administrative matters into a State Government Department?

I know such provisions already exist within the Development Act re: Council DAPs can be sacked and referred to the DAC.

Back off people!!! Just tone it down a bit ok. The council is under tremendous pressure with real life shit. Haven't you heard there are food trucks in our CBD, crazy right. Your also not taking into account they are dealing with brackets and fairy lights and big poles to illuminate our most populated shopping and tourism strip, this stuff generally sucks all the resources and energy for years out of any modern city council. So I ask what is the big deal in "slightly" reducing a 70M dollar plan to 70K, by having one side of the very centre of our city, as a modern aesthetically pleasing Urban space and the other side with some big gum trees and grassed off area's. Now excuse me while I spend the rest of the night deciding what band-aid I'm going to put on my broken leg.

P.S this is why I never read the city council thread. :toilet:

Mark my words.

There will come a day, not too far distant, where apartment residents will rise up in number, percentage and voice to oppose the diminishing caste of regressive and conservative single storey low life's who voted this band of misfits into Council.

The voters at the last ACC election returned a bunch of clueless and visionless Councillors, or corporate puppets, or both, whose primary objective is to obfuscate and fumble around with half-finished projects, to totally undo others, and to unravel the progress made over the last five years in the shortest possible time. Incredibly sad.
