Beer Garden
Re: Beer Garden
Home Hardware still exists, it's owned by Woolworths. I believe the Reynella & Aldinga stores are owned by the same people and have decided to change to Mitre 10 rather than remain as Home. It could be because Woolworths are looking to build on the Masters brand rather than the Home brand.

Oh thanks. I had no idea they were owned by Woolworths! Well that makes plenty of sense then if they're just planning for Masters.ThanksRaider wrote:Home Hardware still exists, it's owned by Woolworths. Both are correct. You were speculating that it could become an icon for Adelaide, while Rhino said that the Festival Centre is an icon.Maximus wrote:Maximus wrote:Fark! That looked brilliant!! The point is you can't build an iconic building. You can only build something and maybe the public will associate it with the place in which it's built. A iconic building is something that is associated with a place in the public's mind. For example Sydney's Harbour Bridge and Opera House are a widely recognised symbol of Sydney, The London Eye has become a more recent icon for London.
Even if you built a unique and interesting observation tower in Victoria square tomorrow, if no one associates it with Adelaide, it is not an icon. It has to enter the public's collective consciousness before it can be considered iconic. Otherwise it's just an interesting building.

Re: Beer Garden
claybro, your position is uncomfortably close to proposing not only no community consultation, but no community consideration. You might get away with saying that a competent planning department should consider community needs, and therefore community consultation is superfluous, but development by decree, wihich you seem to be happy with, brings us back to Baron Haussmann's edict to the peasants of Paris - 'Get out of the way' - and dare I say it, to those Führer Directives.claybro wrote:
Stop the press!, An additional 20000 people require sewrage treatment?Who would have thought! Who in consultation would AGREE to a sewrage treatment plant in their backyard? No one. So what is the point of all this endless community consultation. For the last 30 years Mt Barker has been expanding, and will continue to do so. It needs to,as does Gawler because we still do not have adequate infill developements on release suitable for families. But you can be guranteed in this town, if we stop and condsider every community whim via consultation then we will be paralised. Time to stop the talking and consultation and political point scoring and just get on with the already approved developements.

Re: Beer Garden
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the speed and red light camera on South road at Daws road had been taken down, and today I noticed that the one at South road and wheatsheaf road was also down. (As well as the warning signs on both)
I know these were both very old camaras (within the first dozen set up I believe), but I'm kind of curious as to why they came down. My thoughts extend to:
-with old parts, they're too expensive to maintain.
-These intersections are becoming much safer and are making much less revenue, thus non profitable
-These camaras still work on rolls of film (as opposed to digital storage) and this is being discontinued.
And if the first or last ate the case, does this mean a modern camera will take its place?

Re: Beer Garden
It will most likely be replaced with a new one very soon, it happened recently at the Marion Road and Cross Road intersection.
