I would think Delta or America because Delta and American both have orders for the A350-900 next year which can reach here from LA. I also know the 777-200LR can reach here, so Delta could also use that.

United can do it with their B787-9's. I would say United will be the front runner to start Adelaide services whether it be direct or via Melbourne or even Auckland.

I heard rumours of United, although Delta would tie in nicely with the Virgin network.

Could Adelaide become a hub / gateway for people from Perth wanting to go the US ?

Wouldn't it be easier to just use Air New Zealand or Qantas/Virgin to YMML/NZAA?

Brisbane makes more sense as a hub for that direction

If you fly from Perth to Brisbane it takes a whole day so you then have to stay overnight in Brisbane which is not ideal.

It takes nowhere near a whole day. 4h 20m from Perth to Brisbane - only 90 minutes longer than a trip from Perth to Adelaide, and then you're 90 minutes closer to the USA.

As far as getting a direct air route to the USA from Adelaide, I don't see it happening anytime soon, and if it did, then it would have to be paired with Sydney/Melbourne/Auckland/Christchurch or something I think. I think we'd sooner see Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines or Fiji, let alone Hobart.

Why can't Adelaide get a direct daily flight to LA? Firstly LA has a population of 18 million Adelaide 1.4? Everyone loves travelling to the states and is south Aussies have to travel to Melbourne or Sydney which as extra hours onto the journey. Only looking for what 300 people per day on a flight? Inbound would be solid America loves Aussies!

Done it before in the flight simulator and it can vary from 4 hours and 45 minutes to 5 and a half hours. PER to ADL takes 2 and a half hours.

You have take into account the 2 hour time difference between Brisbane and Perth. If you leave Perth at 730am in the morning you arrive in
Brisbane at around 2pm. The 2 flights from Brisbane to Los Angeles both leave in the morning so you then have to stay overnight.

Adelaide could have a flight to LA leaving around 1pm. Travellers from Perth could leave at 630am and then arrive in Adelaide at around 1050am.
It would be a long trip for them but it could be feasible.

The A380/777 gate would also be free so there won't be any worries about that either.

777-300ER (American) range: 7,830 nm
787-9 range (United): 7,635 nm range
The 777-200LR (Delta) is higher range than the 300-ER.

YPAD/KLAX distance is 7161 nm via a route made on a flight sim website.
I don't think aircraft would be a problem, the only problem right now is whether the route will actually be viable.

An overnight flight is what people probably do then. Leave Perth at 11pm and arrive in Brisbane at 5.30am, with an onward connection.
