Its not officially completed yet.

Does anyone know what system the new UPark on Grote will use? Attended/non-attended/pay and display?
Exit on the right in the direction of travel.

I don't think there is urgent need for a makeover of the Central Markets, it serves its function adequately, although I do think we could do with a bigger Chinatown... not sure if I was hearing wrong, but a few years ago or more , i'm sure there was talk of trying to expand Chinatown from Moonta Street over Gouger and onto the next side street (the one where Ginki is and Samtass)..can anyone recall this??

Shouldn't this be moved to the CBD forum?
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

Pie king to sue over bus station

Article from: The Advertiser
MICHAEL OWEN, POLITICAL REPORTER

May 01, 2008 01:30am

BUSINESSMAN Vili Milisits is preparing to sue Adelaide City Council. He had been prepared to spend more than $1 million on building a version of his popular 24-hour Cafe de Vili in the new Central Bus Station.
It can be revealed that negotiations between the pie king and council broke down last month after almost five months of talks that had reached an "advanced stage".

That has left the $27 million bus station with just a vending machine for food and drinks.

The station between Franklin and Grote streets – the council's largest capital investment – officially was opened on March 29.

City businesses general manager Trevor Goldstone yesterday said Vili's Bakery was its preferred operator of a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week cafe.

The cafe was to take up 440sqm of space.

Mr Milisits yesterday said he could not comment on the details because of "pending legal action". "I was spending over $1 million on the project but it hasn't worked out," he said.

Mr Milisits is understood to have grown tired of "broken promises" and "wasted" time and energy.

Part of his plans involved building a mezzanine floor in the station to accommodate an upmarket version of his Cafe de Vili, which runs at Mile End.

Mr Goldstone said the major sticking point was a difference of opinion over a liquor licence.

Mr Milisits wanted a 24-hour liquor licence but council refused to change its policy for the area and insisted on a 20-hour-a-day licence, with no alcohol served between 3am and 7am.

Mr Goldstone said: "Mr Milisits at that point really felt his interests were best served by a 24-hour-a-day liquor licence and so we came to an impasse on that issue.

"Unfortunately, we couldn't work past that issue and Mr Milisits withdrew his expression of interest."

Council is in talks with other interested parties, although it remained "disappointed" with the Vili's outcome.

Mr Milisits is understood to be basing his legal argument on principles and agreements.

"Everything I have is in black and white but my lawyers advised me not to say anything at the moment. This will get to court one day," he said.
I would've thought a 20-hr/day liquor licence is fair  Plus most ppl would be going there for their awesome pies, not the booze.

^^I agree with your sentiments Howie. I think the council acted in a responsible manner in refusing to grant a 24 hour alcohol license. If granted the Bus Station would have become one of a few places serving alcohol 24 hours a day in Adelaide. As such I can foresee how unsavory people may be attracted to the Bus Station at 4:00 AM with the sole purpose of getting drunk. The Bus Station is that exactly, a Bus Station. It is not a pub.

I think the council's offer of a 20 hour/day license was fair and common sense, and I think everyone has lost by Mr. Milisits walking away from the deal. It is a shame that interstate and other visitors will not be able to try his iconic and delicious pies.

I agree too. Harbo's comments on radio this morning made a lot of sense "How can we not allow 24hr liquor licenses to private traders, but allow it for our own tenant?". Adelaide City Council has done the right thing here. Personally, I can't see any need for a liquor license after midnight or before 10:00am for this particular venue.
cheers,
Rhino

The pie king should pull his head into common sense. He's still getting his end of the bargain, selling pies 24/7 but not the booze. After all, since when did Vili's become a liquor joint? I agree with most of the sentiments posted beforehand relating to this matter.

My vision is clouded by the awesomeness of a full Vili's breakfast of bacon, egg, baked beans, mushroom, grilled tomato and toast smothered in gravy at 4am to enter into any such reasonable debate.

It's a shame that Milisits seems to be being unreasonable. I'd love for a Vili's Cafe there! Much more convenient than Mile End.
