Please keep future o-bahn route fantasies to the Visions section and partisan bitching to the Pub.

According to that article, this was costed at $181million ten years ago, and ended at Tonsley Park, at which point a two-way Southern Expressway was to be part of the plan, which also involved shifting the railway over, and completely re-doing Emerson Crossing and the tram overpass. Now now it would be cheaper to build an O'Bahn all the way to Old Reynella than dual-tracking the Southern Expressway ($445million)? Or are you only reading the bits of the article that you like?Straze wrote:According to a Wikipedia article (Obahn busway) one of the the proposals involved running the Obahn alongside the Tonsley Line (replacing the Tonsley branch).
You've hit the nail on the head, we are at the behest of "what can I in do in my four years of power strategies", perhaps the reason we don't have a big population growth is because the message we send out is that of a backward, happy to do nothing, don't change the norm type state. A kind of self fulfilling prophecy!!!skyliner wrote:Camaro68 - all the states IMO are more 'backward' than forward thinking looking at it from your viewpoint for several reasons - some reasons being politics, money and votes. Long range visions are needed, but if there is a government change they often are heavily changed or scrapped. LOng range comprehensive visions are more remote to people. Besides, long range visions don't bring 'results' as fast as short or 'peacemeal' ones. If a change happens, then what - wasted money? Votes hang on immediate evidence that 'something' is happening. It is a courageous government that has a great deal hanging on long range visions.- though IMO i would love to have a gov't with long range vision.
To illustrate the above - Brisbane has a VAST transport infrastructure problem - not much has been done about it till recent times even though the population of SE Q has been rising at 1000 per week for over 20 years. . Why has this problem got so far - 'peacemeal' work? No money? No vision? Concern for votes? More important things? Who really knows - BUT the same problem you say about SA is here too. The big advantage here is that we are not facing an almost a out of hand population growth beyond financial and time possibilities to cope. This state is $84bn in debt trying to catch up - no vision initially. Needs $67bn for infrastructure now. I would much rather be in Adelaide.

How right you are and it's always the whingers that stop any progress in this state.ChrisRT wrote:So go have a cry. What's your point? No plan or proposal will ever please everyone. Seriously it isn't that bad people. Most South Australians enjoy very high quality lifestyles, but they always find something to whinge about. Most of us have multiple options to choose from when travelling from point A to B and we rarely experience serious congestion like do in cities like Sydney and most North American cities.
These 3 seats were some of closest of the whole election and surprisingly all 3 went to Labor.stumpjumper wrote:One of the problems we have is that the public is given no real information about issues like this on which they are expected to vote.
A further problem here, from the point of view of both major parties, is that the Southern Expressway runs through or near Bright (Labor but winnable by Libs), Mawson (Labor but winnable by Libs) and Mitchell (Independent, very marginal).
On the move in reverse!!!!skyliner wrote:Hear, hear!... or is it here, here! What you look at what actually is being done/planned, there is no comparison - even though there could be a debt issue for the taxpayer to pick up.

the original announcement was that they would start construction by the end of next year, and you are complaining it hasn't started yet?Paulns wrote:So after all the promises when do these clowns actually plan on starting this project????????
For some perspective, take a look at the other states' debts per capita. (good place to look is in the AFR). Take a look at our rating.camaro68 wrote:On the move in reverse!!!!skyliner wrote:Hear, hear!... or is it here, here! Tax debt already there and climbing, land tax up 300%, hospital will cost $8 billion in lease back over the next 20 years, now the Adelaide oval revamp is looking shaky!!!
No wonder we need federal money to pay for double express way Beavis and butt Head can't use any state money, it’s already been allocated to bad decisions.
