Would you bother trying to evade 1% ?
Never underestimate the lengths people will go to evade tax. I can think of a couple of immediate family members who are hell bent on this.

Most of our complicated tax system is based on rulings on court cases regarding tax evasion and the legislation put in place to plug the loopholes. For example the big one in the news recently FBT was instituted because people were hiding their taxable income as gifted assets rather than paid income.

If people paid their fair share the tax system would be simple. But they don't so it's complex.

(Note I'm not saying that FBT law should not be reviewed, it has been fiddled with many times since its 1986 introduction. I said "most" above, the other component is fiddling in order to adjust revenue.)

Apparently this 1% on every banking transaction fee could do away with all other taxes including income tax and in their case return the US to surplus.

It would appear to have merit to me. Though we might have a lot of unemployed in finance and tax evasion industry.
(Presuming you mean a 1% tax on transfers, as a 1% tax on transfer fees would not be at all lucrative)

This is eerily similar to Pauline Hanson's 2% Easytax proposal, and the same objections apply. People will change their behaviour to avoid the tax wherever possible. For instance I currently use my credit card a lot for convenience reasons, but such a tax would make me use cash most for most transactions and a debit card for the rest.

Many transactions would simply disappear - indeed they would have to disappear, as under this sort of tax there is no way the activities they're associated with could be profitable.

Isn't this the same as the ill fated state FID (financial institutions duty) that sent business scurrying interstate/offshore and was eventually scrapped? Or the old "stamp duty" on cheques that suffered the same fate? I seem to remember in the dim dark past, my mother attaching small red "stamp duty paid" stamps on chqs, which was eventually replaced with an automatic printed mark on the chqs. For mine, I think the GST should have gone much further and led to complete abolition of all state duties/levies and taxes, except maybe direct user pays such as public transport fares , parking fees, registration, fines and road tolls where applicable.

So, with the election under a week away now..

Can anyone post about which parties have preference deals with one another?

For example if you vote for the Shooters and Fishers Party, do they have preference deals with anyone?

It's all well and good to discuss major party policies, but I think everyone should know whose dealing with who, and how your vote may or may not help the minor parties/independents.

VERY concerned with how high both Majors preference Family First, though both preference One Nation at the bottom.
Voting Greens will get you absolute nobodys until Xenophon at 24 & Penny Wong at 29.
Not sure how the 2 tickets the Xenophon group are running work, but it's basically one for traditional Labor voters & one for traditional Liberal voters (despite the fact he's preferenced the Nationals first)
Palmer's party will throw preferences to the Liberals, as they've put Labor last
Katter's party has Labor, Liberal & the Greens sharing the bottom 10 of the bottom 11 preferences.

GUYS! Vote below the line if you're so concerned about where YOUR preferences are going. They are your preferences, exercise your right and use them. Don't just give them away.

Indeed. You can work out who you're preferencing where here: http://senate.io/senate/2013/sa#preferences=

Also note that they put Palmer United Party and Katter's Australian Party below Penny Wong but above the other Labor candidates.

Clive Palmer is boasting that only his party is contesting all seats.

I'm rather disappointed the Bobcats aren't bothering to contest any metropolitan Adelaide seats. While I wouldn't want them in charge of the country, they do seem to be stronger on infrastructure than any of the major parties. I'm also surprised they're running senate candidates here - I thought Bob Katter said he wouldn't because he didn't want to compete with Nick Xenophon.

And where have all the loonies gone? Considering the CEC have their own TV show on channel 44, I'm amazed they're not running any candidates this time. Could they finally have twigged how silly their conspiracy theories are?
