Meanwhile in Brisbane there's a pretty exciting proposal.

I've been saying all along Memorial Drive needs a major redevelopment. Every time I walk past the joint I think about what could be at this prime location..

No one is a bigger fan of the redeveloped Adelaide Oval than me. I've already attended it dozens of times.

However, there is about as much chance of this new stadium getting off the ground, than that glass tower in the
background (in North Adelaide)

If you told me 10 years ago Adelaide Oval would have been redeveloped for AFL football, I would have said the same thing. Hopefully wiser heads prevail and something like this does happen. We've seen what the Adelaide Oval precinct has done for the state, a sporting hub there is a no-brainer!

Love the stadium design but the location is horrible. Besides, if people want to see an arena within this area then this vision will certainly not allow for that unless they close Memorial Drive and built it right on the edge of the Torrens which would make it all awfully cluttered. We have other places this could be built, I don't know why they're trying to do a Sydney and cram everything into such a tiny area. The Commonwealth Games doesn't have any requirements to have all sporting facilities to be in one area, that's the Olympics.

Crushing footbridge news for footy fans.
ACCESS to Adelaide Oval’s popular footbridge will be highly restricted during at least part of next year’s football season and its remaining few users channelled through a narrow riverbank alleyway.

because of the festival plaza construction.

I can't see anymore of the article because I am not subscribe.

In a likely unpopular move, the footbridge’s southern end will be blocked by construction work for the Festival Plaza redevelopment, which involves lowering the roadway north of the Adelaide Railway Station.

The northern entrance to the railway station will be closed to prevent access to the Festival Drv construction site.

A large Clipsal 500-style overpass will take remaining footbridge users over the construction site and link to a narrow pedestrian walkway between the railway station and Intercontinental Hotel. Rail passengers would use the station’s southern entrance.

Confirming the plan to The Advertiser, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said a timetable for the $1 billion Festival Plaza overhaul would be drawn up within months and this would determine how many games were affected.

Best thing about the Advertiser is if you live o/s it stops you from feeling homesick.

Was about to say that, or along the casino, and top of the Playhouse back down to the footbridge (if that's still accessible).

Not to mention we don't know how many games it's going to affect - it could be 1 (and if you play a Port game that would offset the inconvenience greatly)

Closing the footbridge is going to be an inconvenience for both footy clubs and the cricket if construction is going on during the summer.

And FYI, for your claimed "great offset in inconvenience"...here's the facts..Crows average 47k and Port average 42k at home games. And that's AFL official figures, not the SMA(SANFL) fudged figures.

Won't be a problem next home game ;).

But still it's an inconvenience which you would have hoped could have been avoided.

I have to say the build up of people in the area out front of the bridge is a concern for me.

Just a minor gripe, but why is it that games broadcast from MCG or EThiad always they cut away to shots of the stadium with the melboune skyline in background, but games at AO, do not seem to show any. I know flying in, AO looks spectacular against the CBD at night, surely there are aerial shots available from a chopper, or the top of the apartments in North Adelaide? There is a huge interstate audience watching these games.
